Option-O LAGOM GDS – Dual-Geometry Grinding System

The Option-O LAGOM GDS is an uncompromising Dual-Geometry Grinding System for anyone who wants to not just grind coffee, but precisely compare and understand it. According to Option-O, GDS stands for “Grinding Dynamics Study”: a platform that lets you use different burr geometries directly side by side – in a single, precision-built system.

“Flat. Conical. Unified.” With the LAGOM GDS, you experience the same coffee with different burr geometries and compare the differences in clarity, body, texture, and extraction directly, side by side.

Pre-order notice: The LAGOM GDS is manufactured in small batches; according to Option-O, each unit is individually assembled, tested, and inspected. The manufacturer states an expected shipping start between September and October 2026 for current pre-orders – delays are possible with pre-order products. We'll let you know as soon as we have a more precise date for your order.

Who It's For

The LAGOM GDS is aimed at enthusiasts, small roasters, and cafés who want to not just read about different burr geometries, but compare them in their own cup – for example, to explore a range of light and dark roasts in a targeted way. You'll find more options from our range in the Single Dose Grinders or Prosumer Single Dosing collections. For an investment of this scale, we're happy to advise you personally – book a consultation.

The Duality of Extraction

The LAGOM GDS was designed to make the choice between flat and conical less theoretical. One burr set may emphasize more clarity and separation, another more texture and body – with the GDS, you test these differences directly side by side.

The Conical+Flat configuration combines the 100 mm Mizen HC100TX conical burrs with the 102 mm Mizen 102OM flat burrs – exciting if you want to explore both classic, full-bodied espresso profiles and modern, light roasts with high clarity. The Flat+Flat configuration combines the Mizen 102OM with the SSP 102HU flat burrs and is aimed at anyone who wants to compare two different flat burr characters against each other.

PCS Technology for the Conical Burr Set

The GDS's Preliminary Crushing System (PCS) is specifically designed for the 100 mm conical geometry. It regulates bean flow, reduces crowding, and stabilizes feed into the burr chamber. This reduces the so-called bean-column effect, where grind size can shift as fewer beans remain in the hopper/funnel. According to Option-O, this leads to better grind-to-grind consistency, a wider sweet spot, and a more balanced cup profile.

Stability Under Load

Inside works a 1650 W brushless DC motor with Closed-Loop Control, designed to maintain a stable speed even with dense, light-roasted coffees. An additional thrust bearing structure supports the burr assembly under axial load and helps maintain alignment and stability while grinding.

Geometry-Tuned Belt Drive

Flat and conical burrs have different ideal speed ranges. That's why the GDS uses a belt-driven system that tunes power transfer to the respective geometry: 100–500 RPM for conical and 200–2000 RPM for flat. According to the manufacturer, the belt drive also reduces vibration and heat transfer into the grinding chamber.

Analog Control and Workflow

The GDS deliberately forgoes a digital interface in favor of direct, analog controls: grind size and speed are set using clearly marked dials, on a micron basis and not limited to a single rotation. A dedicated Purge Control and a switchable Static Neutralizer ensure clean transitions between settings.

The fully magnetic front platform can be swapped tool-free and supports different workflows – straight into the portafilter, into the Dosing Cup, into a Blind Shaker, or into other accessories. Portafilter support covers 49–58 mm baskets; according to the manufacturer, cup height is usable with 110/140/170 mm clearance.
