Two quick strokes through the basket, a wipe at the grinder's outlet, and the next shot starts from a clean base.
Coffee brings with it more than eight hundred aromatic compounds, and some of them are oils. It's exactly these oils that stay behind: in the portafilter, at the grinder's outlet, on the shower screen. Fresh, they're what makes coffee round and sweet. Left for a few days, they change, and then they carry something into the next shot that doesn't belong there. A brush is the quickest tool against this, because it fits between two shots and needs no preparation.
This brush is made for cleaning portafilters and the grinder. The handle is made of walnut and carries the Profitec brand, matching the wooden elements of the JUMP and the MOVE. It feels different in the hand from plastic, and that's the reason you actually use it instead of leaving it in the drawer.
For most machines, the daily routine also includes a backflush without detergent. With detergent about every fifty shots, done in around five minutes. That's how we handle it, and our opinion is one of many – there are no espresso police.

For anyone who pulls espresso every day and wants the second shot to taste like the first. For anyone with a single dose grinder that leaves a few particles in the outlet after every grind. For anyone with a JUMP or a MOVE who likes to keep their tools in the same wood tone.
And for anyone just starting out: care is the part of the espresso craft with the best ratio of effort to effect. No budget is merely a starting point, and a brush belongs in every setup. You'll find more tools in our machine and grinder cleaning range.
Care comes before and after the shot, preparation in between. For anyone who wants an affordable, precise WDT tool and tamper: the WDT tool and the Spring-Loaded Tamper from our Normcore collection. If you want more: the Moonraker and the tampers in the Weber Workshops collection.
If you don't want the grounds ending up on the counter, a knock-out solution helps. The round boxes and the drawers sit side by side among our knock boxes and knock-out containers. And which grinder does the work before that is your call in our coffee grinders: burr sets are like engines in cars – there's no best one, only ones that suit what you want to drink.
Profitec describes it as a practical brush for cleaning portafilters and the grinder. You use it to get coffee residue out of the basket and off the outlet before it dries on.
Walnut, with Profitec branding. It's matched to the wooden elements of the Profitec JUMP and MOVE.
Ideally a quick pass through the outlet after every grind and through the basket after every shot. For most machines, add a daily backflush without detergent, and with detergent about every fifty shots. That's how we handle it, one approach of many.

A clean basket shows most clearly what a bean can do. From our coffee roastery, Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight are our main recommendation: full-bodied, aromatic, dense, with caramel and chocolate. Very Nutty is the choice for maximum body without acidity.
And for curious moments, Wild Peach is ready, fruity and lively. That's our recommendation, one of many. Any bean you enjoy is the right one, including one from the supermarket.
