A steam tap is a simple thing with a demanding job: it has to seal reliably at 130 degrees and several bar, yet still open smoothly with two fingers. While it is new, you hardly notice it. You open it, the steam comes immediately and powerfully, you close it, and all is quiet.
Over the years, that changes. Limescale builds up in the seat, the sealing surfaces develop fine scoring, and suddenly it takes a firm twist to close – or it keeps hissing quietly afterwards. This spare part is the complete tap, part number A299908561, not just a seal kit.
When it is due
The steam tap is due when the wand keeps dripping or whistling after you have closed it. When you have to turn it tighter and tighter to make it stop. When the knob feels sticky instead of turning evenly, or when it first sticks and then jumps as you open it. Moisture or limescale streaks where the spindle passes through behind the knob also indicate that it has started leaking towards the back.

Important for installation
The tap sits in a pressurised line and is hot during operation. We deliberately do not publish step-by-step instructions for this. The machine must be disconnected from the power supply, depressurised and cooled down before any work is done on it, and when tightening, the correct torque determines whether it seals or whether the thread suffers. A qualified technician can do this in a short time and will also check the seal under pressure straight afterwards.

Our routine from Bern and Zurich – not a manufacturer specification, but what has become established in our workshop: after each frothing, briefly purge the steam before the tap closes completely. This flushes out the seat, and it is astonishing how much longer a tap stays tight as a result. When we have replaced a tap, we leave the machine to stand for half an hour and check again before we release it – in the meantime we pull a shot of Nutty Delight, followed by one of Cozy Chocolate. If you really want to put the steam to the test, take Very Nutty for a cappuccino. Everything else is under coffee beans.
No returns
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are procured specifically for each order and cannot be put back on sale after being installed or test-fitted on a machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a quick message and we will clarify the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.

Wouldn't a seal kit be enough?
Often, yes. If the tap only drips slightly and the knob still turns smoothly, a rebuild kit is the first thing to try. Describe what you are seeing and we will tell you what we recommend.
