Explore more →The water running through your plumbed-in machine has a say in how the espresso tastes – and whether limescale builds up in the boiler over time. The Brita Purity C Filter Head Set takes that variable in hand: it treats the water, protects against limescale, and shows you when the filter is running low.
The set consists of the Brita Purity C filter head with flow meter, which works with Purity-C cartridges such as the Quell ST. The cartridge reduces the carbonate hardness of the water – exactly the hardness that leads to limescale in the boiler and in the pipes. The result is treated water for a more consistent taste and less limescale buildup.
The filter head allows a variable bypass of 0 to 70%: you set what share of the water gets filtered and what share is blended in untreated – that's how you adjust the mineral content to your machine and your taste. IntelliBypass technology keeps the bypass rate constant regardless of flow rate. The built-in flow meter counts every liter and shows when the set filter capacity has been reached.

Water makes up over 90% of espresso, and its mineral content directly affects extraction and taste. A comfortable range often lies between 50 and 100 mg/l – the bypass on the filter head lets you get closer to that window. At the same time, the reduced carbonate hardness protects the machine from the inside. That's our observation, one among many.
For anyone with a plumbed-in espresso machine who wants to treat their water and protect their machine from limescale – and who wants to keep track of when the filter needs changing.
Matching replacement cartridges and accessories are available in our Brita Collection. Plumbed-in machines can be found in our Coffee Machines and in the Arkel Collection. If you want to measure the mineral content of your water, you'll find measuring devices in our Barista Tools.
The bypass determines what share of the water is filtered through the cartridge and what share is blended in untreated. At 30% bypass, for example, 70% gets filtered. That's how you set the mineral content to match your machine.
The flow meter counts every liter that passes through and shows when the set filter capacity has been reached. That way you know in good time when the cartridge should be changed.
It's designed for plumbed-in espresso machines. Which cartridge and which bypass suit your water and your machine is something we're happy to work out with you – it depends on the local water hardness.

As a coffee roastery, we see water as part of the recipe, not an afterthought. Get the foundation right, and the qualities of a full-bodied roast like Cozy Chocolate or Nutty Delight come through more clearly. That's our recommendation, one among many.
