The grate that has to sit differently on machines with a built-in scale
On machines with Brew Ratio, the machine weighs the cup during extraction. For this to work, the drip tray grate cannot just rest anywhere – it stands on defined pins that transfer the weight cleanly to the weighing points. If the grate rests off to the side, the machine weighs metal instead of coffee.
The grate is supplied together with these pins. They are exactly the reason why you cannot just use any drip tray grate here.
When it's due
It's time for a new grate when the displayed weights jump or are no longer plausible even though the scale has been calibrated, when a pin is missing or bent, when the grate is warped and wobbles, or when after years the surface is so scratched that it can no longer be kept clean.

Tip from our workshop
When a Brew Ratio scale acts up at our place in Bern or Zurich, we first lift off the grate and tare with nothing on it. If the reading is correct then, the problem lies in how the grate rests and not in the electronics – usually a coffee crumb is stuck under a pin. That saves a whole service call. This is our routine, not a manufacturer specification. We check the weight with Nutty Delight, Cozy Chocolate for chocolatey notes or Very Nutty for body. All roasts under Coffee beans.
No returns
Spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and cannot be resold after installation or test fitting on the machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or send us a quick message and we'll clarify the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.
Frequently asked questions
Are the pins included?
Yes. On this version, the grate and pins belong together.
Is the weighing system included in the delivery?
No. Only the grate with the pins is supplied.
Can I use a normal drip tray grate?
We advise against it. With Brew Ratio, the grate must rest correctly on the weighing points, otherwise the weight is measured incorrectly.
Will it fit my machine?
The deciding factor is part number C.1.278. Send us the serial number and we'll check before you order.
Can I see the part in the showroom?
Our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) show a wide selection, but not our entire range – the display changes. Drop us a quick line at [email protected] before your visit, and we will check whether the product you have in mind is currently there.
