Lelit Bottomless Portafilter Zebrano Wood – 58 mm portafilter with IMS basket
Stripes in the wood, light against dark, every piece different. Underneath, open steel and a basket that's about to start dripping.
Zebrano is a West African wood with a grain that never repeats. Lelit uses it on the classic handle series – the one with the slim, slightly conical shape that has been hanging on the machines for years. That's a different line from the gemstone-shaped Iconic series with its round, weighted handle. Same group, different signature.
Bottomless means: no spout, no steel between you and the basket. You see the start of the extraction, the first dark drops, the coming together into a single stream and the spot where it turns lighter. If the ground coffee sits unevenly in the basket, the water looks for the faster path, and that's exactly where it turns pale first. To be honest, the open bottom doesn't make anything better on its own. It shows. What you do with that – grind finer, distribute better, tamp differently – is up to you.
It comes with a stainless steel basket for two servings of 18 to 21 grams, developed in collaboration with IMS. The choice of basket fundamentally changes the aroma profile: hole pattern, number of holes and flow resistance help decide which of the more than 800 compounds in coffee dissolve at which moment. That's why we always describe extraction by weight ratio, 1:2 as a starting point – 18 grams in, 36 grams out – and never by time alone.
No espresso laws, no espresso police. There's no right and no wrong – the coffee has to taste good. Our opinion is one of many.

Who it's made for
For everyone with a Lelit machine with a LELIT58 group who wants to see what happens between basket and cup. And for everyone who simply likes having wood in their hand. Both count equally. Nobody needs this portafilter – you want it, or you don't.
It suits one espresso in the morning just as well as six over the course of the day. No shot can be replicated: the bean, the humidity and the person change every day. That's not a limitation, that's the beauty of it.
The Lelit espresso machines show which machine goes with it. Other bottomless and classic models are in the Portafilters and bottomless portafilters collection.
What goes with it
An open bottom shows differences in distribution very directly, which is why two tools beforehand are worth it. For everyone who wants a WDT tool and tamper that are affordable and precise: the Normcore barista tools with WDT tool and Spring-Loaded Tamper. If you want more, you'll find the Moonraker and the Weber Tamper at Weber Workshops.
Because espresso is measured by weight ratio, the same principle applies to scales: Normcore for the affordable and precise route, the Acaia coffee scales for app, flow-rate display and Bluetooth. Which machine suits you in the first place is something our comparison and advice tool helps you sort out.
Frequently asked questions
Which Lelit machines does this portafilter fit?
All Lelit machines with the LELIT58 group: MaraX and MaraX3, Bianca, Elizabeth and Elizabeth3, Victoria and Victoria3, and Kate. Anna and Anita work with the LELIT57 group – it doesn't fit there.
What sets the classic wooden handle series apart from the Iconic series?
The shape of the handle. The classic series has the slim, slightly conical handle, the Iconic series the gemstone-shaped, round handle with a weighted metal core. Both sit on the same LELIT58 group, and both come with an IMS basket.
Which basket is included?
A stainless steel basket for two servings of 18 to 21 grams, developed in collaboration with IMS. Further basket sizes can be added and noticeably shift the aroma profile.
How do I care for the zebrano wood handle?
The handle is best kept dry and doesn't go in the dishwasher. You clean the metal part as usual. Wood moves over the years, and every grain develops differently.
Can I see the product before buying?
Our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) show a wide selection, but not our entire range – the display changes. Drop us a quick line at [email protected] before your visit, and we will check whether the product you have in mind is currently there. If you're buying online in Switzerland: delivery to Switzerland and Liechtenstein takes 2 to 4 working days.
From the roastery
Under an open basket, a dense, round bean is easiest to read. Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight run calmly and report back body, caramel and chocolate. If you're looking for maximum body with no acidity at all, go for Very Nutty. And if you're curious what a lighter roast looks like in an open stream, go for Wild Peach – fruity, lively, a discovery on the side. That's our recommendation, one of many; any other bean works just as well.
