The portafilter clicks into place, the grinder recognizes it and starts grinding – and it stops the moment the target weight is reached. No re-weighing, no guessing, no correcting: the dose is right, shot after shot. In daily café operation, that removes a whole step and keeps every cup consistent.
The E80 GBW combines the fast 80 mm burr set of the E80 series with integrated real-time weighing. As a partner of Mahlkönig, we set it up for your operation and support you through the initial calibration.
A high-precision load cell monitors the dose while grinding and stops at the target weight. The result is a highly consistent amount in the portafilter – without a separate scale.
The grinder recognizes the portafilter in place and starts grinding automatically – hands-free and fast, especially during high-volume service.
The grind size is set via the actual distance between the burrs, readable on the display in micrometers. A setting that has worked well can be found again exactly, any time.
The burrs feature a purpose-designed tooth geometry for an even grind profile right into fine espresso ranges.
The powerful motor and active cooling keep the grinding chamber under control, so the grind size stays stable even over many shots.
The adjustable, illuminated chute guides the grounds centered into the portafilter; the high-resolution display stays readable from a wide viewing angle.
With espresso, there's no ‘right' or ‘wrong': grind size, dose and ratio are the variables you use to dial in your taste. A common starting point is 1:2, so around 18 g of ground coffee to roughly 36 g of espresso. Dosing by weight hits that point especially reliably.

Grind-by-Weight with a high-precision load cell, automatic portafilter recognition, patented Disc Distance Detection with micrometer readout, 80 mm special-steel burrs with proprietary tooth geometry, grinding speed of 6–7 g/s, active cooling for a stable grind size, illuminated and adjustable chute, 3.5" display and a bean hopper holding around 1800 g – built for continuous café operation with high demands on dosing consistency.
Without weighing, but with the same 80 mm burr set, the E80 Supreme works alongside it – you'll find it and other models in our Mahlkönig selection. The matching machine is in our espresso machines, and for consistent tamping in continuous operation, it's worth a look at our tampers and tamping solutions. Not sure about the combination? Our machine and grinder consultation can help.
A commercial grinder is also judged by handling, noise level and stability. Come by, we'll show you the E80 GBW in action and set it up together with you.

If you dose by weight, you'll taste fine differences especially well. For bar operation, we recommend rounded, chocolatey, nutty roasts: Cozy Chocolate, Nutty Delight and Very Nutty show their full body with a consistent dose. If you're after a fruitier cup, you'll discover with Wild Peach or Bright Cassis a lighter side. All beans are in our coffee bean selection. That's our recommendation, one of many.
The GBW doses by weight (Grind-by-Weight) and recognizes the portafilter automatically. The E80 Supreme uses the same 80 mm burr set but doses by time instead of weight.
A high-precision load cell measures while grinding and stops at the target weight. That keeps the dose in the portafilter very consistent over many shots.
The grinder starts automatically as soon as it recognizes the portafilter. That saves a step and speeds up the workflow at the bar.
Yes. Active cooling keeps the grinding chamber under control, so the grind size barely shifts even during high-volume service.
A commercial or high-performance home espresso machine with a standard 58 mm portafilter, with a selection in our espresso machines; we're happy to advise you through our machine and grinder consultation.
Yes, you can experience the E80 GBW live in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b).
