Normcore Pressure-Regulating Tamper 58.5 mm – with Ridged Base and Spring System
You place the tamper, press down, and a quiet click tells you: the pressure is just right. No guessing, no too firm, no too loose – the internal spring gives you the same value every time, and the levelling plate lays the coffee bed smooth and even.
A tamper that eliminates one of the biggest variables in espresso: your own hand pressure.
What makes the pressure-regulating tamper special
Inside is a pre-calibrated spring that determines the tamping pressure – not your daily form. When tamping, the levelling plate rests on the rim of the portafilter basket, ensuring the surface remains even and the pressure is distributed uniformly into the coffee bed. Press and rotate clockwise, done. This removes a variable from the equation, and especially when learning, it helps if the tamp is the same every morning.
The ridged base creates a fine pattern in the coffee bed. This supports even saturation of the puck and can help prevent uneven, ring-shaped extraction. Three interchangeable springs are included (15 lb, 25 lb, and 30 lb), with the 25 lb spring already installed – so you can find the pressure that suits your bean and your taste. There's no right or wrong; the coffee has to taste good, and that's just our view, one of many.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Normcore Pressure-Regulating Tamper
How does pressure regulation work?
A pre-calibrated internal spring determines the tamping pressure. When tamping, the levelling plate rests on the rim of the portafilter basket, keeping the surface even. This ensures the tamp is consistent every time, regardless of your hand pressure.
What are the benefits of the ridged base?
It creates a fine pattern in the coffee bed, which supports even saturation of the puck and can help prevent uneven, ring-shaped extraction.
Which springs are included?
Three interchangeable springs: 15 lb, 25 lb, and 30 lb. The 25 lb spring is already installed; the other two can be swapped depending on the desired pressure.
Will the tamper fit my machine?
The tamper is 58.5 mm and thus fits into the common 58 mm portafilters of most espresso machines. You can see it live in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b).
Roastery Tip
A consistent tamp helps you get closer to your desired result – it's not a guarantee of the perfect shot, because the bean, humidity, and human element change daily. That's exactly the beauty of it. For dense, sweet espresso, we like to use Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight. If you prefer it full and round without any acidity, stick with Very Nutty; for a fruity experience, Wild Peach goes into the grinder. This is our recommendation, one of many, and any bean you enjoy is the right one.
