Three paths to the tamper – honestly compared
Affordable with spring calibration: Normcore
If you want spring calibration for reproducible pressure: the Normcore Spring-Loaded Tamper in 49 mm. Stable construction, adjustable, similar price range as this Olympia Standard.
Swiss Original Standard: Olympia Express black
This tamper here. The included standard, functional and honest. For anyone who wants a suitable tamper without premium ambitions.
Olympia Premium Version: red with wooden handle
If you want to stick with the Swiss original but prefer higher-quality craftsmanship – red painted wooden handle, more precise pressure surface, more weight: the Olympia Tamper 49mm red with logo.
Premium Level: Weber Workshops
If you want the endgame – unibody construction, numerous base profiles, maximum craftsmanship: the Weber Workshops Tamper family.
Who this Olympia tamper is for
For all Cremina owners looking for a functional, original tamper in the right size – without the surcharge for the red wooden handle version. Our opinion: The black standard tamper does its job without any ifs or buts. Others see it differently.
Accessories that fit the Cremina setup
Tamping mat: affordable from the Normcore Collection. Puck Prep Tool: Olympia-Original 49 mm, a cheaper Normcore WDT-Tool, Premium the Moonraker from the Weber Workshops Collection. Machine: Olympia Express Collection.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why the black one, if there's also a red tamper?
The black tamper has an anodised aluminium handle and is the standard delivery with new Cremina machines – functional, lightweight, cheaper. The red tamper has a wooden handle with lacquer and higher quality craftsmanship. Both are 49 mm and fit the Cremina.
Does the 49mm tamper also fit the Maximatic?
No. The Maximatic has 54mm baskets – there is a separate 54mm version for that. The 49mm tamper is for Cremina and Cremina SL.
What is the difference to Normcore or Weber Workshops tampers?
Normcore offers tampers with spring calibration in the affordable range. Weber Workshops is in the premium range with unibody construction. Olympia is the Swiss original, matching the Cremina – without a spring, simply functional.
Where can I buy or see the Olympia Tamper live?
Online via coffeecoachingclub.ch with delivery in 2–4 working days to Switzerland and Liechtenstein. On-site in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44, 3011 Bern) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b, 8050 Zurich). Click and Collect possible.
Roastery Tip
The black standard tamper is the most honest entry into the Cremina setup – functional, lightweight, Swiss. For beans, we recommend the Cozy Chocolate as a reliable everyday choice. You can always upgrade to a wooden handle (red) or spring mechanism (Normcore) – but no one has to.
