Weber Workshops Really Nice Tamper – Base Kit for 49mm, 54mm and 58mm
You know the feeling when you first press the Really Nice Tamper – that silky-smooth mechanism, the precise resistance of the spring, the soft click as the self-leveling plate hits the puck. Flat, even, every time. And now you want to experience that exact feeling on a second machine, with a different portafilter. That's exactly what the Base Kit is for.
Weber Workshops designed the tamper so that the base is detachable from the handle. The Base Kit gives you a new working surface – 49mm, 54mm or 58mm – which you attach to your existing Really Nice Tamper handle. Same handle, same spring, same weight in your hand. Only the diameter changes. This turns a tamper into a system that grows with you, no matter what machine is on the counter.
Why the Base Kit makes sense
Anyone who owns more than one machine knows the drill: two portafilter sizes, two tampers, two different habits. Your hand has to adjust every time. With the Base Kit, the handle remains the same – the mechanics, the feel, the weight, all familiar. Only the base changes, and that in seconds. The 49mm base measures exactly 49.50mm and fits classic Olympia Express Cremina and La Pavoni models before the year 2000 (not the 51mm version afterwards). The 54mm base measures 53.50mm and covers the Breville and Sage universe – Barista Express, Barista Pro, Barista Touch, Bambino, Bambino Plus, Infuser and more.
What's included: a tamper base in the chosen size, a leveling collar in silver or onyx, and a tamper stand. What's not included: the handle and the spring mechanism. The Base Kit is for anyone who already owns a Really Nice Tamper and needs another size.

Who the Base Kit is for
For anyone who already owns a Weber Workshops Really Nice Tamper and wants to cover another portafilter size – without buying a second complete tamper. If you have a Cremina next to a La Marzocco, if you use a Sage for a quick cappuccino and an ECM for the Sunday shot – these are the moments when the Base Kit makes sense. One handle, multiple machines, the same feeling. And yes: the feeling counts. How a tamper lies in your hand, how it hits the puck, how the spring resets – that's part of the ritual, and once you have it, you won't want to give it up. Our opinion is one of many, but we hear this again and again.
What goes with it
Those who have the tamper usually want to complete the workflow. For distribution before tamping: the Weber Workshops Moonraker as a WDT tool. Affordable: Normcore WDT tools. For the puck itself: Weber Workshops Puck Screens or Normcore Puck Screens. And if you don't have the complete Really Nice Tamper yet – you can also find it in our Weber Workshops Collection. We import all Weber products directly into Switzerland.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use the Base Kit without the Really Nice Tamper?
No. The Base Kit only contains the base, the leveling collar, and the stand – no handle, no spring. You need an existing Really Nice Tamper as a base.
Does the 49mm base fit my La Pavoni?
On models before August 2000 with a 49mm portafilter – yes. Newer La Pavoni models use 51mm, for which the 49mm base is not suitable.

Roastery Tip
A evenly tamped puck changes what happens in the cup – the water flows homogeneously through, no side is over or under-extracted. What this means: clearer aromas, more sweetness, less unwanted bitterness. With our Cozy Chocolate you'll feel the difference immediately – the chocolate becomes rounder, the body denser. Nutty Delight thanks you with a silky nuttiness that only comes through when the extraction runs evenly. This is our recommendation, one of many.
