Weber Workshops Unibasket – 58mm Precision Portafilter Basket

You drop the basket into your portafilter – it sits snug, no play, no rattle. After the shot, you knock out the puck: it comes out in one piece, dry, cleanly released from the wall (mostly). No crumbling edge, no puddle at the bottom. You flip the basket over, and the screen is nearly empty.

The Weber Workshops Unibasket is a portafilter basket machined from a single 1.2 mm thick piece of 304 stainless steel – forged, milled, polished. Instead of being drawn from thin sheet metal, it brings stiffness to the coffee bed and a hole pattern that reaches right up to the vertical wall. Coffee Coaching Club is the Swiss importer of Weber Workshops and carries the Unibasket in four sizes.

What makes the Unibasket special

Conventional 58 mm baskets are drawn from thin sheet metal. That forces slightly angled walls, and the hole pattern stops short of the wall – often leaving only around 48 mm usable. On the Unibasket the inner walls stand vertical, and the holes are laser-cut individually right to the edge. The result is a true 58.5 mm puck from top to bottom.

The 1.2 mm wall thickness makes the base stiffer. It flexes less under pressure – and that flexing is a common cause of cracks and channeling in the puck. More support in the bed, more even extraction. That's the idea behind it.

Which size is right for you

The size depends on your dose. 16 g for smaller shots and lighter roasts, 20 g as the common standard dose for modern espresso roasts, 24 g for larger doses with more output, 28 g for unusually long shots. With a puck screen or Puck Saver, the usable range shifts by about 1 g. If in doubt, go by the dose your grinder and your taste already point you toward.

Compatibility

The Unibasket is tuned to the Weber BUCK and it also fits most standard 58 mm portafilters with spout – a retaining spring is included for that. For bottomless portafilters, the lower opening should be at least 61 mm wide, otherwise the taper at the bottom catches drips from the outermost holes. It also fits the bottomless Normcore portafilter. It is not compatible with the bottomless portafilters from ECM, Slayer, Gaggia, Rancilio and Breville. It fits Lelit and Rocket, though flow is restricted at the lower opening. Height varies by size – if your current basket is noticeably lower, the Unibasket may touch the group head. If in doubt, send us your machine and portafilter and we'll check it beforehand.

What goes well with it

The natural companion is the flat-mounted, bottomless Weber BUCK, tuned exactly to the Unibasket. If you'd rather have portafilter and basket as one piece, you'll find the Unifilter in the same Weber Workshops collection as well as puck screens and the Puck Saver to protect against erosion of the puck surface. For even distribution beforehand, there's a Normcore WDT tool or the Moonraker, and for consistent grounds a grinder from our grinder selection.

Frequently asked questions

Which Unibasket size should I choose?

Go by your dose: 16 g for smaller shots and light roasts, 20 g as the common standard dose, 24 g for larger doses, 28 g for unusually long shots. With or without a puck screen, the range shifts by about 1 g.

Will the Unibasket fit my portafilter?

Into most standard 58 mm portafilters with spout (retaining spring included). Bottomless portafilters need a lower opening of at least 61 mm. Not compatible with the bottomless portafilters from ECM, Slayer, Gaggia, Rancilio and Breville; on Lelit and Rocket, flow is restricted at the lower opening. It fits the bottomless Normcore portafilter.

Do I need the Weber BUCK as well?

No. The Unibasket is optimized for the BUCK, but works as a drop-in basket in your existing 58 mm portafilter too. The BUCK sits flat on the counter and is tuned to every Unibasket size – nice to have, but not required.

What's the difference from the Unifilter?

With the Unifilter, portafilter and basket are a single piece. The Unibasket brings the same hole geometry as a drop-in basket that you place in your existing portafilter – more affordable and without needing a new portafilter.

Do I need a puck screen or paper filter?

Both are optional. A pack of espresso paper filters is included; they keep the holes clearer and make cleaning easier. A puck screen or Puck Saver additionally protects the puck surface. Neither is required.

How fast is delivery within Switzerland?

2 to 4 working days across Switzerland and to Liechtenstein. Click and collect available in Bern and Zürich.

Roastery tip

An even bed starts in the basket, not just at the tamp. The Unibasket gives the puck support, the rest is grind size and distribution. If your shot runs faster after switching, that's normal – the full 58.5 mm surface lets more water pass through. Grind a touch finer, done. Try it with our Cozy Chocolate or Nutty Delight. That's our recommendation – one of many.
