WPM KONOS – 71 mm Conical Single-Dose Grinder
A quiet brushless motor, the steady click of Italian conical burrs, an RPM display that shows in real time what is happening in the grinding chamber. The beans travel down through the bellow, a short press of the Boost button at the end, and the portafilter is already sitting directly under the spout. No funnel, no transferring, no wall of noise – a workflow that flows into the espresso ritual instead of interrupting it.
The KONOS from WPM's ZP-1 series is a single-dose grinder that defines its own identity through its 71 mm conical burr set – according to the manufacturer, currently unique in this size. It builds on the ZP-1 platform and combines its tool-free cleaning and stepless calibration with RPM control that can be set differently depending on the bean and brewing method.
What Sets the KONOS Apart
The 71 mm conical burr set is made in Italy. Conical burrs shape a different flavour profile than flat ones: rounder, more balanced, with depth in the middle of the profile. In espresso, this often comes across as a denser body with clear sweetness at the same time – this characteristic shows especially with single origins. Our opinion is one of many; other roasters and baristas prefer flat burrs for espresso because they draw the separation of individual flavours differently.
The adjustable speed from 150 to 420 RPM in ten steps allows fine-tuning. Lower speeds are gentler on delicate compounds and are often chosen for lighter roasts or for filter; higher speeds deliver more body and are classically used for espresso. The RPM display gives feedback at all times, and the Boost button briefly switches to maximum – useful at the end of grinding to push the last crumbs cleanly out of the grinding chamber.
The portafilter fork holds a 58 mm portafilter or the included dosing cup directly under the spout. Grinding directly reduces repeated handling and, with it, losses. The design relies on low retention and anti-static properties, so you can switch beans without purging. The matte black aluminium housing is compact and fits into any kitchen and onto any bar.

Who the KONOS Is Made For
The KONOS is for anyone who wants to embrace single dosing with conical burrs and values speed control. If you switch between several beans a day, you benefit from the direct workflow without purging. If you alternate between espresso and filter, you make use of the stepless adjustment and the wide RPM range. If you love single origins, you will find a flavour profile in the conical burr set that combines espresso character with depth.
It is just as well suited to anyone who wants to set up a second grinder in a café for a specific bean or method. Nobody needs a KONOS – those who want one know why. We respect both decisions.
What Else You Need
A grinder comes into its own in combination with the rest of the setup. The KONOS shows its strengths especially with saturated groups, as built into many machines from our Coffee Machines Collection – the range extends from compact single boilers to dual boilers. If you want to put your setup together in one step, you will find a structured overview in the advisory tool.
When weighing, precision pays off. Affordable and reliable: the scales from the Normcore Collection – compact, fast, with a clear display. If you want a flow rate display and an app: the Acaia Collection with Bluetooth and real-time data. Both routes work – the choice is a matter of taste, not a difference in quality.
For clean pucks, we recommend a tamper, puck screen and WDT tool from our barista equipment. Affordable and precise: the Normcore Spring-Loaded Tamper and Normcore Puck Screen. With uncompromising standards in materials and workmanship: the Weber Workshops Collection with tamper, Moonraker WDT Tool and puck screen.
Frequently Asked Questions
What distinguishes a 71 mm conical burr set from 64 mm flat burrs?
In our experience, conical burrs bring more aroma, and at 71 mm a pronounced body as well – in espresso often perceived as sweeter and denser. Flat burrs tend to draw flavours with sharper separation, which often brings clarity in filter. Both have their place. Which style suits you better is a personal decision. Our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) show a wide selection, but not our entire range – the display changes. Drop us a quick line at [email protected] before your visit, and we'll check whether the grinder you have in mind is currently on display.
Can I see the WPM KONOS before buying?
That depends on whether the WPM KONOS is on display right now. Our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) show a wide selection, but not our entire range – it is too large for that, and the display changes. Drop us a quick line at [email protected] before your visit, and we will check whether the WPM KONOS is currently there.
What is the KONOS optimised for – espresso or filter?
With its stepless adjustment, the KONOS covers everything from espresso to French press. Thanks to the conical burr set and direct grinding into 58 mm, its focus is clearly on espresso, but it can also be used for filter. If you brew almost only filter and are looking for maximum separation of flavours, also take a look at flat-burr grinders such as the ZP-1 or grinders from our Coffee Grinders Collection.
How does the Boost button work?
The Boost button temporarily switches the grinder to maximum speed. In low RPM ranges, this helps to drive the last remnants of ground coffee cleanly out of the grinding chamber – ideally in combination with a few pumps of the bellow and a tap on the knocker. This keeps retention consistently low.
How do I clean the KONOS?
The KONOS is designed for tool-free disassembly. The upper grinding chamber can be opened without a screwdriver, the conical burr becomes visible and can be brushed out with the included brush. For deeper cleaning, there are cleaning tablets in our Cleaning Collection – not for use in the KONOS, but for the matching machine. The grinder itself is kept clean mechanically.
Delivery and collection – how does that work?
Throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein in 2–4 working days. Click & Collect in Zurich and Bern at any time. Financing is available. If you have questions before buying, you can reach us by email at [email protected] or by phone during opening hours.
Roastery tip
If you really want to get to know the conical burr set, start with dense, chocolatey profiles – that is where the depth of the KONOS shows most directly. Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight bring exactly these caramel and nutty notes into the cup. If you are after maximum body without any acidity, reach for Very Nutty. For anyone who likes fruity profiles and wants to see how the KONOS brings out clarity, Wild Peach is an exciting discovery. That is our recommendation – one of many. Try what you enjoy.
