Acaia Orion Mini – compact bean doser by weight

The bar is narrow, every inch counts. The Orion Mini fits where nothing else will – and still doses just as calmly as its big brother. You place the cup on the small platform, turn the wheel, and the beans flow until the weight is right. It needs no more space than that.

It's the solution for tight counters that don't want to compromise on precision: same technology, same process, smaller footprint.

What makes the Acaia Orion Mini special

The Orion Mini doses whole beans by weight before they go into the grinder – 225 grams in twelve seconds, 20 grams in three, with a margin of error of just two to three beans. What sets it apart is the platform of around ten centimetres: considerably more compact than the roughly twenty centimetres of the large Orion, without losing any function or precision. A patented auger moves the beans gently, without damaging them.

With the rotary wheel you save three target weights and choose between three modes: Precision, Fast and Green – finely tuned for small doses, large quantities and green coffee. In fully automatic mode, the Mini doses cup after cup without you pressing a button, and fine-tunes itself more and more over time. In scale mode, it also works as a countertop scale with a capacity of 3000 grams.

For us, this ties in with a simple conviction: good coffee starts with the ratio, and an espresso at around 1:2 depends on the input dose being right. No shot is like yesterday's, because the bean, the humidity and people change every day – a constant dose at least takes one variable out of the game.

Do you need something like this? Honestly: no. A scale and a little routine will do too. The Mini is for those who don't want to give up a calm, even workflow in a small space. You either want it or you don't. Both are perfectly fine, and that's just our view, one of many.

How does the Orion Mini differ from the large Orion?

Mainly in footprint: the Mini has a platform of around ten centimetres, the original Orion about twenty. Dosing performance, modes and the 3000 g scale function stay the same – so the Mini gives up nothing in precision, but fits on much narrower counters.

How fast and accurately does the Orion Mini dose?
