Mazzer Mini G – 64mm Espresso Grinder with Grind-by-Weight

18 grams go into the hopper, then you press the button. The TFT display shows the real-time weight, the asynchronous motor runs steadily, and the 64mm 233M burrs work at 1400 revolutions per minute. The grounds fall directly into the 58mm portafilter or into the magnetically held stainless steel cup. At 18.0 grams the grinder stops automatically – accurate to a hundredth of a gram, measured via the professional load cell in the portafilter holder. Nudge the grind size one click finer, and the Vibration Filtering Algorithm compensates for every vibration while the system automatically adjusts the dosing time, so the target weight stays at 18.0 grams. No manual weighing, no readjusting, no guessing.

The Mazzer Mini G is the Grind-by-Weight variant of the Mazzer Mini, relaunched in 2026 – a grinder whose original appeared in 1995 and has stood in countless cafés ever since. In its current version with an in-house asynchronous motor (around 50 percent faster than its predecessor), 64mm Mazzer burrs in two flavor profiles, and an integrated load cell sitting directly beneath the portafilter holder. Coffee Coaching Club is a partner of Mazzer and carries the Mini G from availability as part of the current lineup.

Grind-by-Weight – why 0.1 grams decides the shot

With a standard espresso dose of 18 grams, a deviation of 0.5 grams changes the weight ratio by nearly 3 percent. That's enough to tip a balanced shot off course – at a 1:2 extraction, 0.5 grams too much or too little is the difference between «this is it» and «something's off». Anyone working with time-based dosing compensates for that with routine, weighing before and after grinding, manual adjustment. The Mini G takes that step out of the workflow.

The load cell sits directly in the portafilter holder and measures accurate to a hundredth of a gram – the programmed doses are dispensed with ±0.1 gram accuracy. Three doses can be saved on the TFT display (by weight or by time). When you change the grind size, the system automatically adjusts the grind time so the target weight is maintained. No readjusting the saved dose after every bean change, no manual intervention. The Vibration Filtering Algorithm keeps the load cell stable even when someone knocks out a portafilter next to the grinder – a detail that, in daily café life, makes the difference between «works in theory» and «works behind the bar».

64mm Mazzer burrs in two flavor profiles

The Mini G ships from the factory with the Mazzer 233M bearing-steel burrs. These 64mm flat burrs share the same geometry used in many Mazzer Kony models – a classic espresso profile with balanced extraction, velvety texture, pleasant acidity, and a full-bodied mouthfeel. Particularly good for medium to dark roasts and milk drinks, because the density of the aromas carries through the milk.

Optionally available are the ZZ burrs (K202P) in specialty steel – a «Next Generation» geometry focused on sweet, delicate extraction, silky texture and medium body. The K202P are especially interesting for light roasts, single origins and fruity profiles – they balance acidity and emphasize sweetness, and dial-in is subjectively a bit easier than with the 233M. Both burr sets are manufactured in-house in Scorzè near Venice; the surface treatment ensures the burrs work stably right out of the box – only the first 50 grams of grounds should not be used for brewing.

Important: Mazzer explicitly recommends using only its own burrs (233M or K202P) on the Mini G. Third-party burrs – including from other manufacturers such as SSP – are not approved, because they can change motor behavior, retention, vibration, static and burr parallelism. So anyone who wants to switch between different flavor profiles stays within the Mazzer ecosystem.

Mazzer since 1948 – the engineering behind it

Mazzer has been building coffee grinders since 1948 in Scorzè near Venice – three generations of a family business that develops and manufactures burrs and grinding mechanisms completely in-house. The Mini G's housing is die-cast aluminum, the asynchronous motor (350W) is built for longevity – Mazzer grinders from the 1990s still work in cafés today. Stepless micrometric grind adjustment has been the Mazzer standard for decades. The load cell brings that standard to a modern level without changing the engineering logic that makes the grinders so durable.

Workflow – TFT display, hands-free, anti-static

The TFT display shows the real-time weight of the running dose, three programmable doses (by weight or time), daily grind statistics, burr wear indicator and service alerts. 19 languages can be selected. The Mini G can be activated either by portafilter pressure or by the magnetic stainless steel cup (30 g capacity, fits ⌀58mm) – hands-free grinding for anyone who wants to work on other preparation steps in parallel. The adjustable portafilter holder centers the flow of grounds in the basket. The anti-static system keeps the work surface clean.

Who the Mini G is for

The Mini G is for anyone who pulls several shots a day and wants a reliable hopper grinder with Grind-by-Weight, without investing in a commercial grinder with a larger footprint. Small cafés and coffee carts, where consistency matters more than maximum throughput. Home setups where several people use the grinder and nobody feels like weighing manually before every shot. Specialty bars looking for a second grinder for single origins or daily offerings.

The Mini G isn't for everyone. Anyone looking for maximum freshness per shot with frequent bean changes will find in the Mazzer Philos the single-dose variant with 0.1 g retention. Anyone wanting a pure single-dose grinder without a hopper and with higher grinding precision: Varia VS6 (exclusive Swiss importer) with variable RPM and interchangeable burrs. Anyone wanting 80mm flat burrs at flagship level: Weber Workshops EG-1 (exclusive Swiss importer). The Mini G has a different focus – consistency in hopper mode across many shots, with the assurance of Mazzer build quality.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is the Mini G's load cell?

The load cell measures accurate to a hundredth of a gram (0.01 g), and doses are dispensed with ±0.1 g accuracy. At an 18 g target dose, that means a typical deviation of 0.05 to 0.10 g – within what lies below the perception threshold of a 1:2 extraction. The Vibration Filtering Algorithm keeps the load cell stable even with vibrations on the counter.

What happens when I change the grind size?

In Grind-by-Weight mode, the system automatically adjusts the grind time so the target weight (e.g. 18 g) is maintained. No manual readjustment needed. This is one of the Mini G's central workflow advantages over time-based grinders.

Which burrs for which coffee?

Mazzer 233M (standard): classic espresso profile with balanced extraction, velvety texture and good body – ideal for medium to dark roasts and milk drinks. Mazzer K202P (ZZ burrs, optional): sweet, delicate extraction with silky texture and medium body – ideal for light roasts, single origins and fruity profiles. Both burrs are 64mm flat, made in Mazzer's own production. Third-party burrs are explicitly not approved by Mazzer.

How much retention is there in hopper mode?

Around 8 grams in hopper mode (grinding chamber and chute combined). When changing grind size, these 8 grams need to be purged before the new setting shows up in the cup. In single-dose mode (beans directly into the hopper, without hopper reserve), retention drops to about 0.1 grams after the first 3 doses. Anyone looking for maximum freshness per shot with frequent bean changes is better served by the single-dose grinder Mazzer Philos.

What does hands-free grinding with the Dosing Cup mean?

Instead of pressing the portafilter against the grinder (manual activation), the magnetically held stainless steel cup (30 g capacity) is placed under the outlet – attaching it activates the grinder automatically. This lets you work on other preparation steps in parallel while the grinding runs. The Dosing Cup is included.

How loud is the Mini G?

Comparatively quiet thanks to the direct drive shaft (no belt) and the heavy aluminum housing, which dampens vibrations. In the showroom, the Mini G runs in continuous use without disrupting conversations.

Can I see the Mini G before buying?

Yes. As soon as the 2026 Mini G has arrived, it will be on display in the showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zürich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b). The load cell and hands-free workflow can't really be conveyed through spec sheets. Bringing your own beans is welcome.

How fast is the Mini G delivered in Switzerland?

2 to 4 business days throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein, once the model is available from stock. Click and Collect in Bern and Zürich. Financing available through Heylight.

Where can I buy the Mazzer Mini G in Switzerland?

At Coffee Coaching Club, as a partner of Mazzer. We carry the Mini G in both burr configurations as well as the standard and the optional commercial hopper. Order via coffeecoachingclub.ch, by phone during business hours, or in the showrooms in Bern and Zürich.

Roastery tip

The Mini G is the grinder you fill in the morning with the hopper workflow and then don't need to touch again all day. When we use it in the showroom with the 233M burrs: Cozy Chocolate brings that dense chocolate depth that stands out directly in the espresso and turns into a warm, round composition with the milk in a cappuccino. Nutty Delight with milk is a reliable companion on the Mini G – nutty, velvety, with the body that the 233M geometry delivers. Very Nutty for anyone wanting maximum body without acidity, feels especially at home on the 233M. Anyone wanting to discover a lighter profile and retrofits the K202P burrs: Wild Peach – the peach note shows more clearly, the sweetness steps forward. That's our recommendation, one of many.
