Lelit Mara X3 – Heat Exchanger Espresso Machine with Pagaia Flow Control
Buy the Lelit Mara X3 in Switzerland: heat exchanger with Pagaia flow control, L58E brew group and dual-probe PID, in stainless steel, black or white.
The Mara X3 is the new generation of the MaraX. A 1.8 litre boiler with a stainless steel heat exchanger, Lelit's patented dual-probe PID system with thermosiphon circulation and, new, Pagaia: with it, you control the water flow from the pump all the way to the L58E brew group. On top of that come a new design language with wooden details and a polished stainless steel side ribbon. Developed and manufactured in Italy.
Features of the Mara X3
Pagaia
Pagaia is Lelit's patented electronic flow control system. Turning it clockwise increases the pump output step by step, turning it anticlockwise reduces it, and with it the pressure. That way, you shape every phase of the extraction, from the pump to the L58E brew group. With Pagaia fully open, the machine works with its standard pump profile.
A refined tactile experience
From the gem-shaped knobs to the portafilter handle, Lelit has redesigned every element, with materials and finishes built for stability and durability.
New portafilter design
The new portafilter handle has a round profile and a metal core with a pentagonal detail. It is longer than before, which increases the leverage when locking it into the brew group and reduces the effort needed.
Temperature, steam and flow
As a heat exchanger machine, the Mara X3 heats the brew water through a heat exchanger in the steam boiler. The dual-probe PID system with thermosiphon circulation regulates the temperature. You choose between three levels at the press of a button: Warm, Hot and Extrahot. Temperature helps decide which compounds dissolve: warmer brings more body, cooler more complexity and aroma. With the mode selection, you decide whether the machine works in Xmode coffee or in Xmode steam.
We extract by weight ratio, not by time, with 1:2 as the starting point. Then we shift in the direction that tastes good. No espresso laws, no espresso police. Flow control is a learning process; the bean, the humidity and you yourself change from day to day. If you'd rather not adjust anything, you leave Pagaia open. Our opinion is one of many. More on heating systems in the deep dive on single boilers, heat exchangers and dual boilers.
The details in everyday use
New tamper
The tamper has a clean silhouette inspired by a pentagonal shape. Its wooden handle is matched to the wooden parts of the machine.
Side ribbon
The polished stainless steel side ribbon defines the new design language of the Mara X3 and is integrated into all finishes.
Cool-touch wands
The steam and hot water wands are cool-touch. The steam wand has a 3-hole tip for more powerful, more even steam, and you regulate the intensity with the knob. The hot water wand delivers an even water flow for tea and infusions and is operated with its own knob.
Wooden feet
The tall feet are made of the same wood as the other details. According to Lelit, they increase stability and make it easier to move the machine and to clean the work surface.
New drip tray
The drip tray with wire grid has been redesigned and is quicker and easier to clean.
Advanced technology
The Mara X3 keeps buttons for temperature and mode, gets a new quiet pump and works with the patented dual-probe PID system with thermosiphon circulation.

Who the Mara X3 is for
For everyone who makes espresso and milk drinks on one machine and wants to play with the water flow while doing it, and just as much for everyone who leaves Pagaia open and simply enjoys. Nobody needs a Mara X3. You want it or you don't, and both are right. If you want two separate boilers, you'll find the Elizabeth3 with Pagaia; if you're looking for a single boiler, the Victoria3, both in our Lelit collection. Our espresso machine advice tool helps you choose a heating system.
What the Mara X3 draws from the bean begins in the grinder. For everyone who wants grinders affordable and precise: the VS3 from Varia, the C40 from Comandante or a hand grinder from Timemore. If you want more: the VS6 from Varia, the EG-1 from Weber Workshops or a Lagom from Option-O. You'll find all models in our coffee grinders.
For dosing by weight: for everyone who wants scales affordable and precise, Normcore. If you want an app and a flow rate display: Acaia. Both in our coffee scales. For milk, you'll find both price ranges in the milk pitchers, and for puck prep in the puck screens, from Normcore to Weber Workshops.
You can buy the Lelit Mara X3 online, with delivery in 2–4 working days across Switzerland and to Liechtenstein, or pick it up via Click & Collect in Bern and Zurich. Financing is possible. You'll find the conditions for the introductory course with a machine purchase further down on this page. Coffee Coaching Club is a partner of Lelit.
If you'd like advice before deciding, book a free consultation appointment. If you want to compare machines and grinders side by side, reserve the espresso machine and grinder comparison in the showroom in Bern or Zurich, an option, not a requirement. Frequently asked questions about the Lelit Mara X3
What is Pagaia on the Lelit Mara X3?
Pagaia is Lelit's patented electronic flow control system. It regulates the pump output and with it the water flow during extraction. Turning it clockwise increases the pump output step by step, turning it anticlockwise reduces it, and with it the pressure.
Can I use the Lelit Mara X3 without Pagaia?
Yes. According to Lelit, the Mara X3 works with its standard pump profile when Pagaia is fully open. For that, Pagaia simply stays fully open for the entire extraction.
Can Pagaia be retrofitted to an older Lelit MaraX?
No. According to Lelit, Pagaia was developed specifically for the Mara X3.
What's in the box with the Lelit Mara X3?
According to Lelit, a LELIT58 portafilter with 2 spouts and coffee slide spout, a LELIT58 basket set made in collaboration with IMS (9–11 g, 14–18 g, 18–21 g and blind basket), the LELIT58 tamper, a cup tray, a 70 litre water filter, a first cleaning kit, a brush with nylon bristles and a gasket for the L58E brew group. The wooden handles are smoked oak on the stainless steel finish and zebrano wood on black and white.
How long does the Lelit Mara X3 take to heat up?
Lelit states around 15 minutes until the machine is ready. An LED shows whether the machine is still heating up or ready.
Can I see the product before I buy it?
That depends on whether the Lelit Mara X3 is on display right now. Our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) show a wide selection, but not our entire range. Drop us a quick line at [email protected] before your visit, and we'll check for you whether the Lelit Mara X3 is currently there.
Tip from our coffee roastery: With Pagaia, it pays to choose a bean that responds noticeably to small changes in the flow. For the vast majority, Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight are a good start, dense, aromatic, sweet, with caramel and chocolate, in a cappuccino too. For maximum body without acidity, Very Nutty. And if you're curious, you'll discover a fruity picture with Wild Peach. That's our recommendation, one of many.
