MHW-3BOMBER Castle Needle Distributor – WDT needle distributor for even extraction
Freshly ground coffee sits in the basket full of small clumps, fused together by static charge. Guide the fine needles in, a few calm movements, and the clumps break apart. What's left is a loose, even bed – the foundation for a clean shot.
A WDT tool that loosens and distributes the grounds before tamping.
Why WDT makes the difference
Grinding creates small clumps, and where the grounds sit denser, the water flows more slowly – where they're looser, it shoots straight through. This channeling makes extraction uneven. With the fine needles of the Weiss Distribution Technique, you reach deep into the grounds, break up the clumps and distribute everything evenly before you tamp.
The Castle is a needle distributor made exactly for this step: needles in, a few turns, and the bed lies loose and level. Tamping and the shot build on that. Espresso is a craft, not a set of rules – an even bed just makes it more repeatable. Our opinion is one of many.

Who it's for
For anyone who wants to loosen up their grounds evenly before tamping and prevent channeling. We're always happy to show the exact specification details in person – in the showroom or on request by email.
What you pair it with
A WDT tool works hand in hand with a distributor and a tamper. Affordable tampers, distributors and puck screens are waiting in the Normcore Collection and especially finely crafted in the Weber Workshops Collection; more tools are in our Tamper Collection.
And because an even bed only really pays off with the right machine, it's worth taking a look at our espresso machines – supported by our advisory tool.
Frequently asked questions
What does WDT stand for?
For Weiss Distribution Technique: with fine needles, you break up clumps in the grounds and distribute them evenly before you tamp. That prevents channeling and makes extraction more even.
Does the needle distributor replace the tamper?
No. It loosens and distributes the grounds; compacting is then done with the tamper. Many people combine both for an especially level bed.
Where can I see the exact specification details?
Best in person: in our showrooms, you can hold the tool in your hands. We're also happy to answer detailed questions by email.
Can I see the tool in person before buying?
Very happily — you can experience it live in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zürich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b). Online, we deliver in 2–4 business days, throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein.
Tip from our coffee roastery
An even distribution really shows in full-bodied, sweet roasts. Our Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight taste round and forgive a lot. For maximum body without acidity, the Very Nutty, for a fruity experience, the Wild Peach. That's our recommendation – one of many.
