Turning the empty basket in the light, you see the holes sitting in clear rows – arranged rectangularly, finely drilled. As the shot pulls, the water then runs calm and even through the whole bed.
Nobody needs a new basket. Wanting one, or not, is entirely a matter of curiosity, and we respect that decision either way. If you're here, you know why.
What makes this basket special
The DEX – Deep Extraction – relies on 872 precise holes arranged in a rectangular pattern. The holes are stepped-drilled: this distributes the water evenly across the whole surface and supports a consistent, deep extraction. Made from AISI 304 stainless steel with straight walls and a flat bottom, which helps with even tamping and gives the puck support.
We like to work with a 1:2 ratio, so around 20 g of grounds to 40 g of espresso, and let the weight decide, not the stopwatch. Taste and smell are inseparable here: much of what we experience as aroma happens retronasally, as the espresso passes over the tongue and into the throat. It's our observation that the choice of basket fundamentally changes the aroma profile – that's our view, one of many.
