Hario V60 Dripper NEO 02 – Pour-Over Brewer with 72 Ribs
The hot water meets the coffee bed. Small bubbles rise, the aroma lifts off the table, and within the first ten seconds you can already sense this will be a good cup. What happens with the V60 NEO from here on wasn't possible with the classic V60 – the water moves through the coffee differently, and you can hear it, see it, taste it.
The V60 NEO is the new generation of a dripper that has been the reference in pour-over for two decades. In the NEO series from our Hario Collection – Hario radically rethought the geometry: 72 fine spiral ribs that converge to nine at the base. This isn't decoration. It's a different flow mechanics.
What makes the NEO different
With the classic V60, water flows mainly through the centre of the filter. With the NEO, the 72 ribs keep the filter in contact with the dripper across the entire wall surface – water doesn't just run down the centre, it runs along the whole wall. Hario calls this bypass flow. In the cup, that means less bitterness, more clarity, a faster extraction without losing depth. The brewer lands between the two classic worlds – conical and clean like a classic V60, with the sweetness and fullness usually found in flat-bottom brewers.
The material is Tritan, a robust polymer also used in baby bottles and drinking containers – taste-neutral, impact-resistant, BPA-free. A particularly thin wall keeps the brewing temperature more even, because less heat escapes into the surroundings. That's physics you can taste directly in the result: a more stable temperature means a more consistent extraction, especially with lighter roasts, which are sensitive to underextraction. The handle is deliberately missing – that makes the NEO lighter, more ergonomic and easier to carry. Made in Japan, where Hario has been producing glass and brewing equipment for over a hundred years.
Brewing is complex, but it's not rocket science. Our opinion is just one among many, but what we especially like about the NEO is this: it doesn't make the cup more spectacular, it makes it more honest. A good bean comes through exactly as it is.

Who the NEO is made for
It's for everyone brewing their first pour-over who wants to start right away with a brewer that reflects the current state of the art. It's for everyone who already has a classic V60 and is curious what the new geometry changes. It's for everyone who loves light roasts – peach, cassis, everything from Ethiopia and Kenya – and wants to feel that clarity on the tongue. And it's for everyone who wants a tool that works every morning, can go in the dishwasher, and fits in any kitchen.
A pour-over in this price range can produce cups just as clean as a much more expensive brewer – often even cleaner, because less can go wrong. What a brewer costs says nothing about what ends up in the cup.
What goes well with it
A good kettle with temperature control belongs to pour-over just as the grinder belongs to espresso. Affordable and good: the AURA Standard from our Varia Collection, with precise temperature control the AURA FLUX. For scales, how often you brew decides: affordable and precise, the models from our Normcore Collection, an Acaia offers an app, flow-rate display and Bluetooth.
The grinder makes the biggest difference of anything you can change in your setup. Affordable and good: the Varia VS3 (electric) or the Comandante C40 (hand), and for more precision the VS6, Weber Workshops EG-1 or Option-O Lagom – all in our Hand Grinders Collection and in the electric grinder selection. Matching filter paper in size 02 (white or natural) you'll find in our Filter Collection.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which filter paper fits the V60 NEO 02?
The NEO 02 takes the classic Hario V60 filter paper in size 02. Available in white (bleached) and natural (unbleached) – both work well, the taste difference is marginal and a matter of preference.
What's the difference between the V60 NEO and the classic V60?
The classic V60 has fewer ribs, which don't converge at the base, and it has a handle. The NEO works with 72 fine ribs that reduce to nine at the base, has no handle, and uses a thinner wall for more consistent temperature. The result is a faster extraction and a clearer cup with less bitterness. Which one is better depends on what you're looking for in the cup – it isn't a hierarchy, it's a choice.
How many cups can I brew at once?
Size 02 is designed for 1 to 4 cups. If you're brewing almost exclusively single portions for yourself, size 01 is worth considering instead.
Is the V60 NEO dishwasher safe?
Yes. Tritan is dishwasher safe, as is the silicone base. For the longest lifespan, we recommend occasional hand washing with warm water, without harsh detergents.
Can I see the brewer before buying?
Yes, gladly — you'll find us at the Zürich branch at Hagenholzstrasse 50b and at the Bern branch at Gerberngasse 44. Just drop us a short message at office@coffeecoachingclub.ch, if you want to make sure the model is on site.
From the Roastery
The V60 NEO shows its particular strength when light roasts with delicate aromas get their stage. Our Wild Peach is an obvious choice here – peach, brightness, a clear line. If you prefer it denser, fuller-bodied and sweetly chocolatey: Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight are our main recommendations for the large majority. If you're after maximum body without any acidity, reach for Very Nutty. These are our recommendations, one voice among many. Every coffee path is valid.
