MOTTA Tamper Flat “Carbon Look” 58 mm – Stainless Steel Flat Base, Made in Italy
The fine carbon look on the handle feels technical and calm at once – and beneath it, the flat stainless steel base tamps the grounds evenly.
The flat tamper “Carbon Look” with an aluminium handle in a carbon finish.
What makes this tamper
The flat stainless steel base presses the coffee grounds evenly, so the water flows through the puck evenly instead of finding a quick way through. The raised rim of about two centimetres sits centred on the 58 mm portafilter without slipping when you press, and the handle unscrews for cleaning. The tamper is made in Italy – Metallurgica Motta has been building tools like this since 1967.
An even tamp is the foundation for an even extraction – and that, in turn, for a drink that tastes good. Which look you hold in your hand is a matter of taste: the function is the same across all variants, the design is yours to choose. Nobody needs a particular pattern – you want it, or you don't. Our opinion is one of many.

Who it's for
For everyone with a 58 mm portafilter who wants to tamp the grounds evenly – and likes deciding for themselves which look sits on the counter. The flat base is the classic choice for an even tamp.
What you pair it with
The tamper is part of the puck before the shot: even grinding happens in our coffee grinders, the shot pulls on your espresso machine. Our advisory tool helps with the choice.
Want to compare tampers and accessories: affordable and precise is the Normcore Collection, while the Weber Workshops Collection shows the especially finely crafted side. More models are in our Tamper Collection.
Frequently asked questions
Which portafilter size does the tamper fit?
58 mm portafilters. The raised rim sits centred and doesn't slip when you press.
What material is the handle made of?
The handle is aluminium in a carbon look, the base is stainless steel. The handle unscrews for cleaning.
Flat or convex – what's the difference?
A flat base tamps the grounds evenly, a convex one presses more toward the centre. There's no right or wrong – many prefer the flat base for an even tamp. In the end, what matters is that the cup tastes good.
Can I see the tamper in person before buying?
Gladly. Our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zürich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) let you experience it live. Online we deliver within 2–4 business days, across Switzerland and to Liechtenstein.
Tip from our roastery
A perfectly tamped puck deserves full-bodied beans. Our Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight bring notes of chocolate and nuts. For maximum body without any acidity, the Very Nutty, for a fruity experience, the Wild Peach. That's our recommendation – one of many.
