When you turn the steam knob on the R58, you are not moving the knob but this valve. It decides whether the steam comes and whether it stops again. Inside, a cone works against a seat, with every cappuccino, at over a hundred degrees, with limescale in the water.
When the seat gives way, you notice it first by feel: the knob runs differently than before, and you turn it tighter to make it stop. That flattens the seat even faster. At some point it keeps hissing even though the knob is at its stop – then the valve is due.
When a fine thread of steam remains after closing. When steam or water escapes at the spindle. When the knob is stiff, jerky or can be turned further than before. When you need more force to close it than on the machine next to it.

The valve sits in the pressurised steam path. Before any work, the machine must be disconnected from the mains, depressurised and completely cooled down – a cold steam boiler can still hold residual pressure. We deliberately do not give step-by-step instructions here: a poorly seated fitting only starts to leak under operating pressure.
For R58 owners whose steam tap no longer closes, and for service workshops that replace the valve instead of grinding away at the seat.
We list the taps and valves by model. These items belong together:
Working at the same spot are the spindle for the steam and water tap, the gasket and the valve cap. The complete steam wand attaches directly to it. All parts for your model are listed under Spare parts Rocket R58 and R60 and Service parts.
After frothing, we only turn the steam tap closed, never tight. Anyone who tightens it again after every jug flattens the sealing seat – and will need exactly this valve within two years. That is our workshop routine, not a manufacturer requirement. For dialling in afterwards we use Nutty Delight, for chocolatey notes Cozy Chocolate and for body Very Nutty. All roasts under Coffee beans.
Spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and cannot be resold after installation or test fitting on the machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a quick message and we will clarify the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.
No. The valve is operated by hand via the rotary knob and has neither a coil nor an electrical connection.
In the part number and the price. The steam valve has A227705093, the water valve A227704669. Order the side that is leaking on your machine – if in doubt, write to us.
The scope of delivery depends on the manufacturer's specification for number A227705093. The knob and steam wand are not included. Ask us before ordering and we will clarify the rest.
We do not recommend it. It sits in the pressurised steam path, and a leaking fitting only becomes apparent under operating pressure.
Yes, you can see it in person in Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b.
