Rocket gasket for the steam and water tap – if the tap drips, it is usually the culprit
First it is a drop on the steam pipe after frothing. Then the tap stays damp, even when it is closed. And at some point there is a small puddle on the drip tray in the morning. Before you start thinking about a new valve: in the vast majority of cases it is this gasket that has gone hard.
It sits in the closure of the steam and water tap and seals the spot where hot steam passes through every time you open it. Heat and limescale take their toll – it is a wear part, not a component for life.
When it is due
When the tap keeps dripping even though it is fully closed. When it only closes with noticeable resistance. Or when you are working on the valve anyway during the annual servicing – then it gets replaced as a matter of routine.

Who it is for
For anyone who maintains their R58 or GB5 themselves and likes to keep a few gaskets in stock when servicing. And for anyone who finally wants to get rid of the dripping tap without any heavy lifting.
What goes with it
The complete valve closure including this gasket is a separate spare part – ask us if you want to replace both at once. To clean the wand, use Puly Milk Plus Liquido and a Rhino barista cloth. You will find everything for the machine under Rocket accessories and spare parts.
Tip from our café
After changing the gasket, we deliberately do not force the tap shut – a new gasket seals with light tightening, and if you squash it the first time, you will have the same problem again in six months. That is our workshop rule from Bern and Zurich, not a manufacturer specification. To fine-tune the shot afterwards, we use Nutty Delight as a reference, Cozy Chocolate for chocolatey notes and Very Nutty for maximum body. All roasts under Coffee beans.
Returns excluded
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and cannot be resold once they have been installed or test-fitted on a machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a line and we will check the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.
Frequently asked questions
Does the gasket also fit an Appartamento or Giotto?
This part is listed for the R58 and the GB5. For other Rocket models we stock other gaskets – tell us which model you have and we will find the right one.
How many gaskets do I need?
One per tap. If your steam and hot water are separate, you need two.
Do I need tools?
Yes, to open the valve closure. If you are unsure, we can do the replacement in our workshop.
How can I tell whether the gasket or the valve is faulty?
If the tap drips in the closed position and the sealing surface is visibly hard, cracked or deformed, it is the gasket. If it still leaks after the replacement, the problem lies in the valve seat.
Can I see the part in the showroom?
Our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) show a wide selection, but not our entire range – the display changes. Drop us a quick line at [email protected] before your visit, and we will check whether the product you have in mind is currently there.
