Beneath the group, the espresso splits at the spout into two streams, for two cups or one glass. The Wiedemann portafilter head is made of stainless steel for E61 groups, available to order online with Click & Collect in Bern and Zurich.
The head is the business end of the portafilter: it holds the basket, locks into the group and guides the espresso to the spout. You screw the handle on via the M12 thread; it is not part of this item. Wiedemann is a manufactory in Baden-Württemberg that makes wooden handles and portafilters for espresso machines.
The head does not change how your machine extracts. What counts are grind size, basket and the brew ratio, with 1:2 as a starting point. The double spout splits the shot into two cups, while a bottomless portafilter shows what happens in the basket. Both have their place. Our opinion is one of many.

For everyone with an E61 machine who wants to replace a double-spout head or fit a handle of their own with an M12 thread. Complete portafilters, including bottomless ones, are in portafilters & bottomless portafilters, more wooden parts from Wiedemann, such as handle sets for ECM, WDT tools and brushes, in the Wiedemann collection.
Around the portafilter: for anyone who wants a tamper that is affordable and precise, there is Normcore. If you want more mass and finish, you will find it at Weber Workshops, along with puck screens and WDT tools. For the brew ratio in the cup: scales from Normcore, or with app and flow rate display from Acaia.

Tip from the roastery: We weigh every shot and start at 1:2, around 18 g of ground coffee to 36 g of espresso, split into two cups with the double spout. Our favourites are Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight, dense and full-bodied with notes of chocolate and nut. For maximum body without acidity we reach for Very Nutty. The full selection is in our coffee beans. This is our recommendation, one of many.
