ECM barista apron, anthracite – cotton blend with slip pocket
The fabric falls over your shoulders, the straps settle into place, and with that one simple move begins the part of the day that belongs to coffee.
This isn't an accessory in the strict sense. An apron doesn't make an espresso better and doesn't change an extraction. What it changes is the moment before. Dopamine is released in anticipation, not only at the moment of enjoyment – the anticipation is, biochemically, already part of the experience. Rituals that mark the transition make that moment tangible: apron on, grinder on, cups warming. The limbic system links routines like these to memory and emotion, and that's exactly why, for many people, the first shot after a ritual tastes different from the one gulped down standing between two appointments.
What sets it apart
It's made from a blend of sixty percent cotton and forty percent polyester – the cotton for feel and breathability, the polyester for shape retention and easy care. The colour is anthracite, a dark grey on which coffee splashes are a non-issue.
An angled slip pocket sits at the front, easy to reach without contortions and big enough for a cloth, a spoon or a phone. Round eyelets reinforce the strap openings, so the fabric doesn't wear out where an apron gets pulled every day. It's made for ECM by Trauth Design Gastrowear.
Anyone who has ever spent an afternoon behind a counter knows why the inconspicuous details matter in workwear: the height of the pocket, the fit of the straps, how the fabric behaves after the third wash. Our opinion is one of many – but that's exactly how you recognise an apron you'll keep.

Who it's for
For everyone who stands at the machine at home and likes to make the switch from everyday life to coffee visible. For everyone who works in a café or a roastery and needs an apron that makes it through the day. And for everyone who wants to give something to a person who has everything that makes espresso, and nothing that goes with it.
It fits everyone, regardless of build or gender – an apron doesn't ask questions. Our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) show a wide selection, but not our entire range – the display changes. Drop us a quick line at [email protected] before your visit, and we will check whether the product you have in mind is currently there. And if you simply want it: that's reason enough. Nobody needs anything we have.
What goes with it
What goes with the apron is what you put in its pocket and what stands next to it. In the Barista Equipment Collection you'll find cloths, brushes and small tools for the counter, plus knock boxes and knock-out containers for the puck.
For the milk, the milk pitchers are ready: affordable and good are the pitchers from Normcore; if you want more, go for Rhino or Weber Workshops. And the cup at the end is no minor detail – vessel, colour and material measurably change how dense and sweet a cup is perceived. The selection is under cups for espresso and cappuccino. You'll find the matching machines in the ECM Collection; we're an ECM partner.
Frequently asked questions
What is the apron made of?
A blend of sixty percent cotton and forty percent polyester. The cotton provides the feel, the polyester the shape retention and easy care.
What colour is it?
Anthracite, a dark grey. Coffee splashes hardly show on it.
Does it have a pocket?
Yes, an angled slip pocket on the front. The strap openings are reinforced with round eyelets.
Does it fit different body sizes?
It's adjusted via the straps and cut as a work apron for adults. If you need exact measurements, just drop us a line and we'll measure it in the showroom.
Can I see the product before buying?
Our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) show a wide selection, but not our entire range – the display changes. Drop us a quick line at [email protected] before your visit, and we will check whether the product you have in mind is currently there. If you order online: delivery to Switzerland and Liechtenstein takes 2 to 4 working days.
From the roastery
When we tie on our aprons, one of these two is usually on the scale: Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight – dense, aromatic, full-bodied, with chocolate and nut, and just as good in milk as on their own. If you're after maximum body without any acidity, go for Very Nutty. And if you want to start the day with something lively, go for Wild Peach – fruity, a discovery for the curious. That's our recommendation, one of many; any other bean works just as well.
