Four centimetres of stainless steel that reach deep into the KB90
An M5 with a length of 40 millimetres is not a panel screw. A screw is only this long where several layers sit on top of one another and something has to be clamped all the way through. That is exactly why La Marzocco lists this item on the KB90 – rust-proof, so that it doesn't seize in the warm, humid interior.
The original part has the part number I.1.007. It is one of those screws you remove first when dismantling and need last when reassembling – which is why they so often go missing.
When it's due
The drive is worn out, the shank is bent or the thread is rough along its entire length. The screw creaked as you undid it – a sure sign that it will snap next time. Or it has gone missing, which happens faster than you'd think with a long screw in an open machine.

Important for installation
A 40-millimetre screw usually clamps several components against each other. If it is started at an angle or tightened unevenly, the whole stack distorts. Before any work, the machine is disconnected from the mains, depressurised and allowed to cool down. We deliberately don't give step-by-step instructions here – where several layers are clamped together, the tightening torque belongs in the service documentation, not on a product page.

Workshop tip from Bern and Zurich
This is our routine, not a manufacturer specification: when reassembling, we first screw in all the long screws by hand and then tighten them crosswise, never fully tightening one after the other. Why does an espresso machine need such a long screw?
Where several components sit on top of one another and are clamped together. The item description doesn't say which point that is on your KB90 – the number I.1.007 in the service documentation will lead you there.
How does it differ from the M5 × 10?
Only in length, and therefore in number: I.1.007 instead of I.1.005. Thread and material are the same.
Do I get a set?
No, a single screw is supplied. If you need several, order the corresponding quantity.
Can I use an off-the-shelf standard screw?
You'll find the right dimensions, but often not the right material. Moisture and cleaning agents are present in the machine, and galvanised steel is attacked there. If you replace it, use stainless steel.
