MOTTA Push Tamper "Lightning" black 58 mm – Palm Tamper, made in Italy
The flat of your hand rests on top, one straight press down – and the puck comes out level, with no long handle in the way. Simple, direct, fast.
A push tamper (palm tamper) in black, sized for 58 mm portafilters.
What defines the push tamper
Instead of a tall handle, you press the flat tamper down with the palm of your hand. That gives a straight, even pressure and a level compaction – the basis for the water flowing evenly through the puck instead of finding a quick path. The base is stainless steel, the body black, and it's made in Italy.
Whether you tamp with your palm or a classic handle is a matter of taste – there's no right or wrong. In the end, what counts is that the cup tastes good. Our opinion is one of many.

Who it's for
For anyone with a 58 mm portafilter who prefers a flat, fast tamper without a tall handle and wants to level the grounds with the palm of their hand.
What to pair it with
The tamper belongs to the puck before brewing: even grinding happens in our coffee grinders, brewing happens on your espresso machine. Our consultation tool helps with the choice.
If you like comparing tampers: the Normcore Collection is affordable and precise, while the Weber Workshops Collection shows the especially finely crafted side.
Frequently asked questions
What is a push or palm tamper?
A flat tamper without a tall handle, which you press down with the palm of your hand. That gives a straight, even pressure.
What portafilter size does it fit?
58 mm portafilters.
Flat or classic tamper – which is better?
Both work. Some prefer the direct pressure of the palm, others the tall handle. There's no right or wrong.
Can I see the tamper in person before buying?
Very much so. In our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zürich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) you can experience it live. Online we deliver in 2–4 business days, across Switzerland and to Liechtenstein.
Tip from our coffee roastery
A level tamped puck deserves full-bodied beans. Our Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight bring full-bodied chocolate and nutty notes. For maximum body without acidity, try the Very Nutty, and for a fruity experience, the Wild Peach. That's our recommendation – one of many.
