MOTTA Flat Tamper "Bubble" 58 mm – Stainless Steel Flat Base, Made in Italy
A playful bubble pattern on the handle, paired with a warm wooden coaster as a resting spot – and beneath it the calm, flat stainless steel base that presses the grounds level.
The flat tamper "Bubble" with a patterned aluminium handle, delivered with a wooden coaster as a resting spot.
What makes this tamper special
The flat stainless steel base presses the coffee grounds level, so water flows evenly through the puck instead of finding a quick path through it. The tall rim of around two centimetres sits centred on the 58 mm portafilter without shifting as you press, and the handle unscrews for cleaning. The tamper is made in Italy – Metallurgica Motta has been building tools like this since 1967.
An even compression is the foundation for an even extraction – and that, in turn, for a drink that tastes good. Which look you hold in your hand is a matter of taste: the function is the same across every variant, the design is yours to choose. Nobody needs a particular pattern – you want it, or you don't. Our opinion is one of many.

Who it's for
For anyone with a 58 mm portafilter who wants to press the grounds level – and likes deciding for themselves which look sits on the counter. The flat base is the classic choice for an even compression.
What to pair it with
The tamper is part of the puck before extraction: even grinding happens in our coffee grinders, extraction happens on your espresso machine. Our advisor tool helps with the choice.
Want to compare tampers and accessories: affordable and precise is the Normcore Collection, while the Weber Workshops Collection shows the especially finely crafted side. More models are waiting in our Tamper Collection.
Frequently asked questions
Which portafilter size does the tamper fit?
58 mm portafilters. The tall rim sits centred and doesn't shift as you press.
What's included with the "Bubble"?
The tamper comes with a wooden coaster as a resting spot. The handle is aluminium with a bubble pattern, the base is stainless steel and unscrews for cleaning.
Flat or convex – what's the difference?
A flat base compresses the grounds level, a convex one more towards the centre. There's no right or wrong – many people prefer the flat base for an even compression. In the end, what matters is that the cup tastes good.
Can I see the tamper in person before buying?
Very much so. In our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zürich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) you can experience it live. Online we deliver in 2–4 business days, throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein.
Tip from our coffee roastery
A puck tamped level deserves full-bodied beans. Our Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight bring chocolate and nutty notes. For maximum body without any acidity, try Very Nutty, for a fruity experience try Wild Peach. That's our recommendation – one of many.
