What defines the tamper
The flat stainless steel base presses the coffee grounds evenly together, so that the water flows through the puck consistently instead of finding a quick path. The high rim of about two centimeters sits centered on the 58-mm portafilter without slipping when pressed, and the handle can be unscrewed for cleaning. The tamper is made in Italy – Metallurgica Motta has been building such tools since 1967.
Even tamping is the basis for consistent extraction – and that, in turn, for a drink that tastes good. What look you hold in your hand is a matter of taste: the function is the same for all variants, you choose the design. Nobody needs a specific pattern – one wants it. Our opinion is one of many.
