Normcore WDT Tool with Stand V3 – Distribution Needle Tool to Prevent Clumping

Before you tamp, you run the fine needles through the freshly ground coffee. Clumps dissolve, the powder falls loosely and evenly into the basket, and what were once dense clumps become an even bed. A small step that shows in the cup.

A tool against the invisible irregularities that arise during grinding.

What makes the WDT Tool special

Grinding creates clumps and static electricity, which distributes the coffee grounds unevenly in the filter basket. Where it is denser, water has a harder time passing through; where it is looser, it finds its way. This channelling leads to uneven extraction. The WDT Tool, short for Weiss Distribution Technique, solves exactly that: You stir the grounds with the fine needles, breaking up clumps and distributing everything evenly before tamping.

The housing is made of CNC-machined aluminum, the needles from stainless steel spring wire. The included stand keeps the tool upright and the needles off the work surface. You'll best feel for yourself whether this step improves your results; this is just our view, one of many.

Roastery Tip

Especially with dense, darker roasts, freshly ground coffee tends to clump – that's where the WDT Tool shows its value. For dense, sweet espresso, we like to reach for Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight. If you like it full-bodied and rounded without any acidity, stick with Very Nutty; for a fruity experience, Wild Peach goes into the grinder. This is our recommendation, one of many, and every bean you enjoy is the right one.
