Olympia Express Blind Filter 54mm for Maximatic – Backflushing, Original Part from Schwanden
The blind filter for backflushing the Maximatic – a closed stainless steel disc without perforations, inserted into the portafilter. When pressure builds up, water collects in the brew group, flushing residues out of the solenoid valve and seal. An essential routine for anyone who wants to keep their Maximatic clean in the long term.
What makes this blind filter stand out
Backflushing – A must for heat exchanger machines
The Maximatic has a dual-boiler system with a heat exchanger and solenoid valve in the brew head. Daily backflushing with water (no cleaning detergent) flushes coffee oils and residues from the brew group. Approximately every 50 shots, use cleaning detergent – this takes about 5 minutes in total and is the most important maintenance measure there is.
Original part from Schwanden
Stainless steel, without perforation. 54 mm, the standard size for the Maximatic portafilter. Manufactured in the factory in Schwanden GL, with the same precision standards as the machine itself.

Who this blind filter is for
For all Maximatic owners who want to seriously maintain their machine. Backflushing is not an option, but a routine – neglecting it allows coffee oils to accumulate in the brew group, eventually sticking the solenoid valve and seal. Our opinion: once a day with water (no cleaning detergent), and approximately every 50 shots with cleaning detergent.

Frequently asked questions
How often should I backflush?
Our recommendation: once a day with water (no cleaning detergent), and approximately every 50 shots with cleaning detergent. The entire process takes about 5 minutes.
What happens without backflushing?
Coffee oils and residues accumulate in the solenoid valve and brew group. In the medium term, seals will stick, pressure build-up will become uneven, and in the worst case, the solenoid valve will block. Defects can occur – with regular backflushing, you push them far back.
Can I replace the blind filter with a normal filter basket for flushing?
No. Only the blind filter, due to its lack of perforation, creates the pressure build-up that enables backflushing. A normal filter basket simply allows water to flow through – without any cleaning effect.
Where can I buy or see the blind filter live?
Online via coffeecoachingclub.ch with delivery in 2–4 business days throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein. In person at our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44, 3011 Bern) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b, 8050 Zurich). Click and Collect available.
Roastery Tip
Backflushing is the maintenance routine that will keep your Maximatic tasting like new for a long time. A clean brew group is the basis for honest aroma development – old coffee oils turn every bean into a rancid aftertaste. For tasting, we recommend Very Nutty as a nutty main recommendation for all who love maximum body without any acidity. Our opinion, one of many.
