It is a functional silicone pad that protects the surface of your scale. Especially during longer brewing processes, when a warm vessel sits on the scale for an extended period, it prevents possible damage from heat transfer. This is more than cosmetic, as temperature affects the weighing mechanism over time – by absorbing the heat, the scale remains more accurate over the years.
Especially with pour-over, where the carafe or cup rests warm and patiently on the Pearl S, the coaster shows its strength. It is available in black and white and matches the color of your scale. Whether you want such protection is up to you; this is just our view, one of many.

Silicone. The material is heat-resistant and easy to clean.
For pour-over, we like to place the warm carafe on the coaster before putting it back on the scale – this keeps the Pearl S reliable for years. For filter coffee, we like to grind Wild Peach if we're in the mood for something fruity; otherwise, we stick to Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight – full-bodied, sweet, dense. If you like it full and round without any acidity, stick with Very Nutty. This is our recommendation, one of many, and any bean you like is the right one.
