Rocket Appartamento TCA drip tray grate – the surface every espresso lands on
A metal sheet with evenly punched holes, a cut-out for the portafilter, slightly stepped at the edges – the drip tray grate is the one surface of the machine you touch every day without looking. The cup is placed on it, the portafilter knocked on it, the hand rested on it.
This item is the grate on its own, without the tray. It is intended for anyone whose tray is still watertight and in shape and where only the visible surface on top needs replacing.
When it is due
On the grate, wear first shows visually: dark rings around the punched holes that no longer brush off, dull patches where the portafilter has been knocked for years, fine scratches across the entire surface.
More important than the looks is the fit. A grate that rocks at one corner or moves when you put down a full cup should be replaced – not because it is ugly, but because a tipping cup spreads hot coffee around.

For anyone with an Appartamento TCA whose tray is still in good condition and where only the grate on top shows its age. The most affordable way to make the view beneath the portafilter look tidy again.
What goes with it

From our workshop
Once a week, we put the grate in hot water with cleaning powder for ten minutes, not in the dishwasher. The rinse aid leaves a film on the punched surface that you then have to laboriously polish off again. Our routine from the workshop, not a manufacturer specification.
Second point from everyday use: don't knock out the portafilter on the grate, but in the knock box. That is exactly where the dull patches come from that later become the reason for a replacement.
