Varia VS3 Spring Kit – Replacement Springs for the Grinding Chamber
After months of heavy use, the four springs beneath the outer burr can lose tension. The burr then sits less securely, vibrates more during grinding, and the particle distribution widens – your shots run less evenly even though you haven't changed the grind setting. What the spring kit does
The four springs sit directly beneath the outer burr in the VS3's grinding chamber. They keep the ring stable and centred under load and dampen the vibrations that occur when breaking down hard beans – especially with light roasts. If the springs lose tension, the ring shifts minimally under load, which changes the gap between the inner and outer burr, and with it the particle size, during a single shot.

Fitting
Unscrew the hopper, remove the outer ring, lift out the burr, remove the four old springs, insert the new ones, and reassemble in reverse order. No special tools required. After the swap, reset the grind setting – that's normal and part of the process.
What goes with it
Since the grinder is open anyway, a burr upgrade is worth considering – Hypernova or Supernova from the Varia Collection fit directly into the VS3. For dialing in by weight after the swap, you can use the Varia AKU scales or the Timemore scales.

Typical signs are stronger vibrations while grinding, less even shots despite an unchanged grind setting, or visible play in the outer burr when you gently move it.
Do I need special tools for the swap?
No. The swap needs almost no tools and takes just a few minutes: unscrew the hopper, remove the outer ring, lift out the burr, swap the springs, reassemble in reverse order.
Do I need to reset the grind setting after replacing the springs?
Yes, that's normal. The new springs shift the position of the outer burr slightly. Plan for two to three test shots.
Does the spring kit fit all VS3 generations?

How often should the springs be replaced?
That depends on how often you use it. With daily use, it's worth checking every 12 to 18 months, or as soon as the signs mentioned above appear.

A few millimetres of spring tension make a noticeable difference, because an even particle distribution is the basis of every clean extraction. When the burr vibrates, more outliers appear toward fine and coarse – that unsettles the cup. New springs bring the VS3 back to its tight distribution, most noticeable with light roasts.
