WPM ZP-1 – Single Dose Coffee Grinder with 64mm Flat Burrs
The cool, matte surface under your fingers. The magnetic click of the dosing cup, precisely falling into place. And then a velvety hum – controlled, powerful, almost silent. That's the moment you realize that more is happening here than just grinding.
The ZP-1 is the grinder with which WPM entered the single-dose sector. Italian-made 64mm flat burrs, a brushless DC motor with ten RPM stages, stepless grind adjustment. A grinder that shows its strengths in the cup – not in the data sheet.
Italian-made 64mm Flat Burrs
The burrs come from Italy and deliver a consistent grind across the entire spectrum – from fine espresso to coarse French Press. Consistent particle size means consistent extraction. Water finds fewer detours, the aromatic window opens more cleanly, the body builds up more stably. This is not magic, it's geometry and fluid dynamics. Grinders are like car engines – subjective, there's no best one. Our observation: Flat burrs of this size deliver a clarity in filter coffee and a defined aromatic profile in espresso that many people love.
Stepless Grind Adjustment and Ten RPM Stages
The ZP-1 dispenses with clicks and detents. You turn the adjustment ring, and the burrs move continuously – no jumps, no dead zones. This allows for the finest corrections for espresso and makes the jump to pour-over or French Press a simple turn.
In addition, there's a brushless DC motor with ten selectable RPM stages between 600 and 1300 revolutions per minute. Higher speed tends to produce more body, while lower speed protects delicate compounds and can unleash more complexity. Which setting you prefer is up to your palate – not a diagram. Understanding pressure and speed is a learning process, not a button for perfection.
At the end of the grinding process, a booster button provides a short RPM boost that pushes the last crumbs through the grinding chamber. In combination with the Chute Knocker, retention remains very low. If you want to further optimize the workflow, add a bellows as an optional accessory – from WPM itself or universal.
Crumble-free Workflow
The dosing cup magnetically finds its position and fits directly onto 58mm portafilters. The Chute Knocker taps the last particles out of the spout. Anti-static technology reduces clumping and static on the counter. Changing beans with minimal purging – this is single dose as it's meant to be.
Tool-free disassembly keeps cleaning short. You remove the top burr, brush out the chamber, put it back. No Allen keys, no screws, no fear of misaligned burrs.
SSP-compatible – Upgrade Path Included
The ZP-1 is prepared ex works for a separate burr holder, which makes it possible to switch to SSP burrs. If you later want to explore a different aromatic profile – Multi-Purpose, Cast, High-Uniformity – you can change the burrs without changing the grinder. A detail that only pays off over months but retains value over years. The matching burr holder is included in the scope of delivery.

Who the ZP-1 is Made For
The ZP-1 is for anyone who wants to take single dosing seriously without slipping into a boutique price range. For people who switch between espresso, V60, and French Press at home and want a grinder that can do all three – without effort and waste exploding. No budget is just entry-level, and expensive equipment is not automatically better. The ZP-1 sits at a point where many coffee lovers end up: serious, curious, but pragmatic. No one needs it. Those who want it know why.

What Goes With It
The ZP-1 shows its full strength in a complete setup. On the machine side, models from our Coffee Machine Collection fit – from the single-boiler world of ECM Espresso Machines to Profitec Machines and the Portuguese dual-boilers from the Arkel Collection. If you want to make the jump to a saturated group head, check out La Marzocco.
For scales, the rule is: For those who want to start precisely and affordably, the Normcore Collection is the right place. If you want flow-rate display and app integration, go for the Acaia Collection.
The same logic applies to puck preparation. Affordable and good: Normcore for tampers, WDT tools, puck screens, tamping stations, and dosing cups. For maximum craftsmanship: Weber Workshops. Both paths are legitimate. No one needs the more expensive – you want it or you don't.
If you're still looking for clarity on the right machine, you'll find it in our Coffee Machine Comparison.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I see the WPM ZP-1 before buying?
Yes. You can find the ZP-1 in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) – experience it live, pick it up, run through the workflow. Not every variant is always on site, but availability can usually be arranged within one to three days.
Which burrs does the ZP-1 have?
The ZP-1 works with 64mm flat burrs, manufactured in Italy. The grind is consistent and suitable for the full range from espresso to French Press.
Is the ZP-1 only suitable for espresso?
No. The stepless adjustment and the ten RPM stages cover all common brewing methods – espresso, moka, AeroPress, V60, Chemex, French Press. The ZP-1 is a single-dose grinder for the whole household, not for a single sieve.
What is the difference between ZP-1 Black and Silver?
Functionally identical. Same burrs, same motor, same workflow, same dimensions. The difference is purely cosmetic: matte black or matte silver. The choice is a matter of your kitchen and your taste.
Is a bellows included in the scope of delivery?
No. The scope of delivery includes the grinder, the hopper lid, a dosing cup (58mm), the burr holder for SSP burrs, a cleaning brush, as well as a silicone cover and silicone spout extension. A bellows can be added as an accessory if you want to further optimize the workflow.
Can I install SSP burrs later?
Yes. The ZP-1 is SSP-compatible, and the necessary burr holder is included in the scope of delivery. You can change the burrs as soon as you want to further develop your aroma profile.
How loud is the ZP-1 in everyday use?
The ZP-1 works with a brushless DC motor. Brushless DC motors are technically quieter than classic AC motors with carbon brushes. How it feels in your kitchen depends on placement, surface, and personal perception – the best way to experience it is at our locations in Bern or Zurich.
How do I buy the ZP-1?
Directly online in the webshop, with delivery throughout Switzerland and Liechtenstein in two to four working days. Click & Collect in Bern and Zurich is possible. Financing is possible. For questions, you can reach us by email at office@coffeecoachingclub.ch or via coffeecoachingclub.ch, by phone during business hours.
Roastery Tip
The ZP-1 brings out its clarity and body particularly beautifully with darker, well-balanced profiles. From our own roastery: Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight for the vast majority who love dense, chocolatey-nutty cups. Those seeking maximum body without any acidity can opt for Very Nutty. And those craving a vibrant, fruity experience should try Wild Peach – not as a primary recommendation, but as a discovery for the curious. What tastes best to you is something you'll only discover with your palate. That's the beautiful part.
