This smooth surface is the Nanotech quartz coating, from which coffee oils and water pearl off. Shot after shot, the basket feels freshly rinsed.
Beneath that, a laser-inspected hole pattern is at work: each hole the same size, evenly distributed. Water no longer seeks an easy path but flows through the entire puck at the same speed. Nobody needs a precision basket to pull a good espresso – the original basket does its job. You want it because the cup becomes clearer, rounder, and sweeter. This is one of many possible decisions, and we respect it either way.
A note from our experience that you should know before the first shot: The Nanotech quartz coating noticeably reduces friction in the basket – water flows significantly faster through the puck. This shifts the extraction dynamics, and the taste often changes radically compared to your previous basket. This is not a flaw, but the nature of this basket. Expect to grind finer and recalibrate your recipe – grind size first, then dose if necessary – until the cup is where you want it again. Those who enjoy adjusting will find a rewarding tool here; and once you know the effect, you rarely want to miss it again. Our opinion is one of many – but you should plan for this effect.
Espresso is extraction by weight ratio – usually 1:2, meaning about 36g in the cup from 18g of coffee. How cleanly this succeeds depends on how evenly the water flows through the puck. A precise, uniform hole pattern distributes the flow across the entire surface – fewer channels, fewer over- and under-extracted spots simultaneously. What you taste is density, sweetness, and a round, long finish; caramel, chocolate, and nuts come out clearer. Taste and smell are inseparable: a large part of the aroma is created retronasally, during swallowing. The Nanotech quartz coating on the AISI 304 stainless steel makes the surface smoother, repels oils, and facilitates cleaning – a detail you'll notice every day. It is our observation that basket choice fundamentally changes the aroma profile – more than many a major modification.

For everyone who wants to purposefully improve their existing setup without immediately replacing their machine or grinder – every budget is welcome. The difference is most clearly visible in a bottomless portafilter: even flow instead of individual streams. Those who like easy maintenance and are willing to recalibrate their grind size once will be particularly well served by the Nanotech line. You belong here because you love coffee – not because you use a specific basket.
The basket shows its best in a bottomless portafilter, where you can directly observe the extraction. Because the shot runs faster, a finely adjustable grinder is especially worthwhile. To ensure an even puck: the tamper collection – affordable with Normcore, premium with Weber Workshops. Against clumps beforehand: WDT Tools. On top of the puck: Puck Screens. And all other baskets can be found in the Precision Baskets Collection.
The Nanotech quartz coating reduces friction in the basket, causing water to flow faster through the puck. The extraction shifts noticeably, and the taste often changes significantly. Therefore, grind finer and recalibrate your recipe – grind size first, then the dose – until the balance is right again. Plan a few shots for adjustment.
It's a 58mm basket – fits all E61 machines (Bezzera, Rocket, ECM, Profitec, Lelit), La Marzocco, and Victoria Arduino. 18g is a common starting point for a double shot; if you dose higher, opt for 20 or 22g.
The basket has no circumferential retaining ridge. It is held in place by the spring or the portafilter. In most 58mm portafilters, it sits without problems – if in doubt, tell us your portafilter model.
It makes the surface smoother, repels coffee oils and water, and reduces friction. In practice: faster flow, less sticking, and noticeably easier cleaning. The basket remains AISI 304 stainless steel, with the coating applied on top.
Daily backflush without cleaner, every approximately 50 shots with cleaning agent like Urnex Cafiza. Thanks to the coating, less coffee oil adheres.

A uniform basket rewards dense, aromatic beans the most. From our coffee roastery, Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight brew with full body and roundness. Those seeking maximum body without any acidity can stick with Very Nutty; those who want to savor the clean, fast extraction fruitily can discover a lively peach note with Wild Peach. Our recommendation – one of many.
