Comandante Clix Mate Standard / Red Clix — Ergonomic Adjustment Adapter for C40 and X25

You're holding the C40, outside on the terrace of the mountain hut. Fresh coffee for the day. You feel around under the body and try, with cold fingers, to grip the triangular click mechanism to turn two clicks coarser — from 25 to 27 clicks for the V60 instead of the AeroPress. With bare fingers, that works. With gloves, it becomes a test of patience. You click the Clix Mate onto the shaft, feel the solid snap. Suddenly you have a turning surface to grip instead of a flat geometry. Two clicks, you feel both clearly. Ready to grind.

That's the Clix Mate Standard / Red Clix in everyday use. Comandante's adapter for the classic triangular clicker geometry of the C40 — with both the standard shaft and the Red Clix RX35 upgrade. Made from QTP® polymer with a food-grade silicone lid and an integrated storage capsule underneath. Originally developed for the X25 Trailmaster, the Comandante variant deliberately designed for outdoor setups — where cold fingers and gloves are the standard, not the exception. In the CCC range, direct from Hanover through us as a Comandante partner.

Important: which Comandante shaft do you have?

Comandante has two different clicker geometries. The Clix Mate Standard / Red Clix only fits one of the systems. Check before buying:

Grinder and shaft Clicker geometry Matching Clix Mate
C40 MK4 Standard Classic triangular clicker geometry Clix Mate Standard / Red Clix (this page)
C40 MK4 with Red Clix RX35 upgrade Classic triangular clicker geometry Clix Mate Standard / Red Clix (this page)
X25 Trailmaster Classic triangular clicker geometry Clix Mate Standard / Red Clix (this page)
C60 Baracuda (all versions) GX50 brass clicker (Gold Clix system) Clix Mate Gold Clix

The two geometries aren't compatible. If you see a gold-coloured (brass) clicker under the body of your grinder, you need the Gold Clix variant. If the clicker has a flat, triangular geometry, this variant here is the right one. If in doubt: just ask us, we'll check your shaft photo to see what fits.

What the Clix Mate Standard / Red Clix actually does

Larger grip surface for the triangular click geometry

The classic C40 shaft has a compact triangular clicker — precise, but hard to grip with cold fingers or gloves. The Clix Mate adds a noticeably larger turning surface with a subtly textured finish, without touching the click mechanism itself. The click feel stays unchanged.

Faster disassembly for cleaning

Anyone who regularly cleans the burrs of the C40 or X25 — a must-do routine on a hand grinder — knows the adjustment knob is the limiting factor. With the Clix Mate, fully unscrewing the shaft for cleaning is noticeably more comfortable. What used to be fiddly turning with two fingers is now a turn with your whole thumb.

Storage capsule under the silicone lid

Under the food-grade silicone lid is a small integrated storage capsule. Comandante designed it for outdoor coffee setups — salt, pepper, spices for the mountain-hut pasta, or an emergency reserve portion of beans for an unexpected third espresso. In café settings, some baristas use the capsule for a cleaning brush, a mini spare screw or a cupping sample.

QTP® polymer from German Comandante manufacturing

Comandante builds the Clix Mate from the same QTP® high-performance polymer used in the bean jars and other accessory parts — dimensionally stable, wear-resistant, without deforming over the years. The fit stays firm, with no play or loosening in everyday use. Made in Germany.

Who needs the Clix Mate Standard / Red Clix?

We regularly see three profiles in enquiries:

Outdoor coffee setups with the X25 Trailmaster or the C40. Hiking, camping, hut weekends, bivouacs — anywhere cold fingers or gloves come into play, adjusting grind size on the bare clicker is an exercise in patience. The Clix Mate solves that. Comandante originally developed the adapter exactly for this scenario.

Home setups with the Red Clix upgrade. Anyone using the RX35 Red Clix kit on the C40 has double the clicks per grind range — so also double the adjustments per bean. Anyone who switches between beans regularly benefits from faster adjustment via the extra grip surface.

Professionals and cupping setups. Anyone grinding several beans per shift on the C40 — for cupping or test brewing, for example — benefits from switching between grind settings faster. Over the course of a day, the seconds add up.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Clix Mate Standard / Red Clix fit my C60?

No. This variant only fits the classic triangular clicker geometry of the C40 (Standard or Red Clix shaft) and the X25 Trailmaster. For the C60 Baracuda with a GX50 brass clicker, you need the Clix Mate Gold Clix.

Do I need different Clix Mates for the Standard and Red Clix shaft?

No. This variant covers both. The click geometry of the Standard and Red Clix shaft is the same triangular shape — only the number of clicks per grind range differs. The Clix Mate sits the same way on both shafts.

How do I know if my C40 has the right shaft?

Every C40 from MK1 to MK4 — whether with a Standard or Red Clix shaft — has the classic triangular clicker geometry. If your grinder is a C40, the Clix Mate Standard / Red Clix fits. If in doubt: send us a photo and we'll check.

Does the Clix Mate change click precision?

No. The Clix Mate sits on the shaft without touching the click mechanism itself. You feel the clicks just as precisely as without the adapter, just with a larger turning surface.

What's the storage capsule actually for?

Comandante designed it for outdoor coffee setups — salt, pepper, spices at the mountain hut. In home and café everyday use, many users find creative uses for it: a small cleaning brush, a cupping mini reserve, a spare screw. Optional, not mandatory.

Is the Clix Mate dishwasher safe?

No. Clean with a damp cloth, remove the silicone lid separately if needed and rinse briefly. Avoid aggressive chemicals and the dishwasher – that protects material integrity and fit accuracy.

Can I leave the Clix Mate on while grinding?

Yes. The Clix Mate doesn't interfere with the grinding process. Many users leave it permanently mounted and only remove it for cleaning.

What grinder maintenance suits the C40 or X25?

Regular cleaning of the burrs every few weeks — by hand with a brush and cloth, without chemicals. For very oily beans, Urnex Grindz is occasionally worth using, provided the grinder disassembles easily (which is the case with Comandante). More on that in the Grindz entry.

Do you offer Swiss service for Comandante?

Yes. Coffee Coaching Club has Comandante grinders, bean jars, shaft upgrades like the Red Clix RX35 kit and adapters like the Clix Mate on site in both showrooms. For questions about choosing a grinder or changing burrs: office@coffeecoachingclub.ch.

Roastery tip

The Clix Mate is a small detail that noticeably improves the workflow with the C40 or X25. My suggestion from showroom practice: anyone who keeps several beans on hand benefits especially. You'll change the grind size more often because switching is faster — and that's exactly what a hand-cranked grinder allows: bean-specific dial-in without heat-up time or switching machines. With Cozy Chocolate you'll want different clicks than with Wild Peach — and with the Clix Mate, switching takes two seconds, not twenty. Anyone out and about with the X25 also gets the added benefit that grind adjustment with gloves or cold fingers becomes practical in the first place. That's my view from the roastery, one of many.
