ECM powder funnel 58 mm – stainless steel dosing funnel for the portafilter
The ring sits on the basket, the grinder runs, and instead of a fine film on the worktop, every grain lands where it belongs.
Spillage is the least noticeable of all variables. A few tenths of a gram left lying next to the basket look like nothing – until you calculate the shot by brew ratio. Espresso is described by the ratio of dose to yield, with 1:2 as the starting point, and that ratio only holds if the dose actually ends up in the basket. The funnel turns a fluctuating variable into a steady one.
What it does
It's made of stainless steel, with a 58 millimetre diameter for the common portafilters of this size. It sits securely on the basket, leaving both hands free – one for the grinder, the other for whatever comes next. The raised rim catches what would otherwise jump over the edge while grinding, especially when the grounds are statically charged and want to spread.
Then it carries on: the funnel keeps the grounds in the basket while you break them up and distribute them with a WDT tool. Particle size and its uniformity determine extraction quality – where the water finds an easier path, it runs through faster, and the cup becomes more uneven than it needs to be. What the funnel contributes is modest, yet it works: it makes sure the quantity is right and the bed can be built up evenly.
Stainless steel is easy to clean and doesn't take on any taste. A tool of this kind needs nothing more.

Who it's for
For anyone who grinds straight into the portafilter and is tired of wiping the counter afterwards. For anyone who works with single dosing and wants every grain of the weighed dose to end up in the basket. And for anyone who simply likes to work calmly – that's part of the ritual, and an espresso ritual only takes around five minutes anyway.
Nobody needs a powder funnel. It works without one, and it did for decades. You either want one – or you don't. Those who want one know why.
What goes with it
After the funnel comes distribution. Among the WDT tools, both routes stand side by side: the tool from Normcore for anyone who wants it affordable and precise, the Moonraker from Weber Workshops for anyone who wants more. Then comes the tamper – the Normcore Spring-Loaded is affordable and good; if you want more, go for the Weber Workshops tamper.
If you'd rather work with a cup than grind straight into the portafilter, you'll find the alternative under dosing cups. And the grinder before it is in the coffee grinders collection: for anyone who wants an affordable, precise grinder, the Varia VS3 or a hand grinder from Comandante or Timemore. If you want more, you'll find the Varia VS6, the Weber Workshops EG-1 or an Option-O Lagom. Burrs are like engines in cars – subjective, there's no single best. Our opinion is one of many.
Frequently asked questions
Does the powder funnel fit my portafilter?
It has a 58 millimetre diameter and is intended for portafilters of this size. If you're unsure, tell us your machine's item number and we'll check the fit in advance.
Why would I need a dosing funnel at all?
It stops ground coffee from landing next to the basket while grinding. That way the dose is right, and the ratio of dose to yield – 1:2 as the starting point – stays reliable.
Does it stay in place on its own while grinding?
Yes, it sits securely on the portafilter, leaving both hands free.
How do I clean it?
Stainless steel can be rinsed with warm water and doesn't take on any taste. That's all it needs day to day.
Can I see the product before buying?
Our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) show a wide selection, but not our entire range – the display changes. Drop us a quick line at [email protected] before your visit, and we will check whether the product you have in mind is currently there. If you order online: delivery to Switzerland and Liechtenstein takes 2 to 4 working days.
From the roastery
With clean dosing, the difference between two beans becomes clearer, because there's one variable less in play. Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight are our main recommendation: dense, aromatic, full-bodied, with chocolate and nut. If you're after maximum body without any acidity, go for Very Nutty. And if you'd like to discover something fruity, go for Wild Peach – lively, a side note for the curious. That's our recommendation, one of many; any other bean works just as well.
