IMS precision basket 54 mm – h22, 12–16 g (for Sage & Breville)
You take the basket out of the wash and it gleams right into the holes – nothing sticks, nothing dulls it. This clean, polished surface is exactly where an even extraction begins, even with a lean 12–16 g dose on your Sage or Breville.
Nobody needs a precision basket for good espresso – the original basket does its job. You want one because the cup becomes clearer and rounder. It's one of many possible choices, and we respect it either way.
What makes this basket special
IMS's Competition perforation is designed for even extraction: 583 round holes with a conical cross-section, distributed in a grid, let the water run cleanly across the whole puck – fewer channels, a rounder cup. The surface is brightly polished all over, even inside the holes, so hardly any coffee residue sticks and cleaning is easy (dishwasher-safe). Made in Italy from AISI 304 stainless steel, with a flat bottom. Espresso is extraction by weight ratio, usually 1:2; what you taste is density, sweetness and a round finish. Taste and smell are inseparable; a large part arises retronasally. It is our observation that the choice of basket fundamentally changes the aroma profile.

Who it's for
For Sage and Breville users (Express, Bambino, Bambino Plus, Barista Pro) who want cleaner extractions with lean doses – every budget is welcome. Most visible in a bottomless portafilter. If you want to fit in more coffee, you'll find the same basket in 24, 26 and 28 mm heights. You belong here because you love coffee – not because you run a particular basket.
What goes with it
At its best in the bottomless portafilter of your Sage/Breville. For a level puck: the tamper collection (for 54 mm, a 53.3 mm tamper, e.g. from Normcore) – premium tools from Weber Workshops. Against clumps beforehand: WDT tools. Plus the right grinder. All other baskets: the precision basket collection.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the basket fit my Sage or Breville?
Yes – for 54 mm brew groups, compatible with the Express, Bambino, Bambino Plus and Barista Pro (BES450/500/880/810/860XL/870XL/878), among others. For the standard portafilter, the plastic insert must be removed; in a bottomless portafilter, the basket sits directly.
Which height and dose?
This version (22 mm tall) is designed for 12–16 g. The series is also available in 24 mm (14–18 g), 26 mm and 28 mm – higher = more coffee.
How do I clean the basket?
The polished surface lets hardly any residue stick; the basket is dishwasher-safe. For espresso oils, soak it in cleaner now and then.
Can I see the basket before I buy it?
Our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) show a wide selection, but not our entire range – the display changes. Drop us a quick line at [email protected] before your visit, and we will check whether the product you have in mind is currently there.
Roastery tip
An even basket rewards dense, aromatic beans most of all. From our coffee roastery, Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight pull through full-bodied and round. If you want maximum body without any acidity, stay with Very Nutty; if you like it fruity, discover a lively peach note with Wild Peach. Our recommendation – one of many.
