Nobody needs a special basket for good espresso – the original basket does its job. You want it because the cup becomes sweeter, rounder, and more consistent. This is one of many possible decisions, and we respect both directions.
What makes this basket special
The Big Bang is IMS' latest idea: 585 holes concentrated towards the center of the basket – the distance between the holes increases towards the rim. This directs the flow centrally and ensures an exceptionally even flow through the entire puck, preventing channeling. You'll taste the result as significantly more sweetness, while acidity recedes – caramel, chocolate, and nut take center stage. The holes are Ø 0.30 mm with a conical cross-section; the basket is ridgeless, has a flat bottom, and an electropolished, easy-to-clean surface. Espresso is extraction over a weight ratio, usually 1:2; taste and smell are inseparable, a large part arising retronasally. It is our observation that basket choice fundamentally changes the aroma profile.

Who it's for
For those who dose a little higher and like more body – especially good with medium to darker roasts. Designed for bottomless portafilters; at this height, bottomless use makes the most sense. If you want to emphasize the fruity acidity of lighter roasts, another basket is often a better choice – we say this honestly. Every budget is welcome.

The Big Bang emphasizes sweetness and reduces acidity – perfectly suited for full-bodied roasts.
