IMS Competition Ridgeless Precision Basket – 58 mm, 12–18 g
No more powder getting stuck in the ridge: this competition basket is ridgeless – smooth right to the edge. After brewing, you can knock out a clean puck, and in the bottomless portafilter, the espresso flows calmly and concentrated.
Nobody needs a competition basket to make good espresso – the original basket does its job. You want it because the cup becomes clearer and rounder. This is one of many possible decisions, and we respect both directions.
What makes this basket special
IMS's exclusive competition perforation is patented: 715 holes with a conical cross-section, Ø 0.30 mm, at micro-spacing, on a perforated surface of Ø 49 mm – calibrated for uniform flow. The cylindrical shape with a slightly convex bottom and rounded edges ensures that the entire puck is utilized, and facilitates drying and knocking out. Espresso is extraction by weight ratio, usually 1:2; what you taste is density, sweetness, a clear crema, and a rounded finish. Taste and smell are inseparable, a large part of which occurs retronasally. It is our observation that the choice of basket fundamentally changes the aroma profile.

Who it's for
For anyone looking for a ridgeless basket with competition perforation in the classic double shot range – any budget is welcome. It best shows its uniformity in a bottomless portafilter. For those who dose higher, look at the larger competition variants. You belong here because you love coffee – not because you use a specific basket.
What goes with it
The basket looks its best in a bottomless portafilter. To level the puck: the tamper collection – affordable with Normcore, premium with Weber Workshops. Against clumps beforehand: WDT Tools. Plus the matching grinder. All other baskets: Precision Baskets Collection.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does "ridgeless" mean?
The basket has no circumferential inner ridge where coffee grounds can get caught – smooth to the edge, easier to keep clean. It is held in place by the spring or the portafilter.
What dose – 12 to 18 g?
The guideline is 12–18 g; in practice, up to 20 g also works well (this is how we use the baskets in our coffee shop). The grind size also plays a role.
What are the benefits of the convex bottom?
It is matched to the ratio of bottom to puck height, uses the entire surface, and makes knocking out easier.
Does the basket fit my machine?
It is made for 58 mm portafilters (rim-Ø 70 mm) and fits many E61 brew groups – including La Marzocco, Faema, Synesso, Slayer, Nuova Simonelli, Victoria Arduino, Rancilio, Rocket, ECM, Bezzera. If in doubt, tell us your model.
Can I see the basket before buying?
Yes, in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b).
Roastery Tip
A uniform basket rewards dense, aromatic beans the most. From our coffee roastery, Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight brew with a full body and roundness. For those seeking maximum body without any acidity, stick with Very Nutty; for those who like fruity notes, Wild Peach offers a lively peach note. Our recommendation – one of many.
