The single filter basket for the SWIFT – so the tamper fits again
The SWIFT grinds, doses and tamps in a single pass. For that to work, the filter basket in the portafilter has to match the grinder’s tamper exactly – in diameter, depth and shape. This basket is the version for one cup.
A filter basket is a wear part, even though it is made of metal. The fine holes clog up with coffee oil and limescale, the rim gets deformed when you knock out the puck, and at some point the water no longer spreads evenly. You taste it above all as a thin, unbalanced espresso that no grind setting can rescue.
Descale first, then replace
Before you order a new basket: in most cases the holes aren’t worn out but clogged. Coffee oil and limescale sit so firmly that you can see them as dark dots when you hold the basket up to the light. A backflush cycle with Puly Caff Plus and an overnight soak surprisingly often bring back the full flow. If your water is hard, descaling is part of it too – everything you need is in the machine and grinder cleaning section. Only if the basket still looks patchy against the light after cleaning, or the rim is bent, is a replacement worth it.
When it's due
- The flow stays uneven even after cleaning.
- Held up to the light, individual holes are permanently blocked or worn out.
- The rim is bent, dented or burred.
- The basket no longer sits cleanly in the portafilter and tilts.
- The SWIFT’s tamper no longer meets the coffee flat – then the geometry no longer fits.

Who it's for
For businesses with a SWIFT that pull single espressos and need the right basket for it. And for anyone who wants to keep a spare in stock, because a bent rim in the middle of service doesn’t help anyone.
What goes with it

From our workshop in Bern and Zurich: We hold every filter basket up to the light once a week. What you see tells you more than any scale: if the holes at the edge are dark and the ones in the middle are light, the water has been running wrong for a while. That’s our routine, not a manufacturer requirement. Then we taste, often with the Nutty Delight or the Cozy Chocolate, and for strong milk drinks with the Very Nutty. More among our coffee beans.
Returns excluded
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and cannot be resold once they have been installed or test-fitted on a machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a short message and we’ll work out the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.
Frequently asked questions
How does this basket differ from a normal filter basket?
It is designed for the SWIFT, whose tamper works directly into the portafilter. That’s why La Marzocco lists its own part numbers: L115/A/S for one cup, L116/A/S for two.
How much coffee fits in it?
Our documentation doesn’t state a weight in grams, so we don’t give one. The basket is listed as the version for one cup.
Can I clean it in the dishwasher?
Better not on a regular basis. A soak in coffee oil cleaner is more effective, because it attacks the oils in the holes instead of just the surface.
My espresso runs unevenly – is it the basket?
Possibly, if the holes are blocked on one side. First check it, cleaned, against the light. If it still runs unevenly, look at your distribution when tamping before you swap the part.
