Bamboo Matcha Whisk (Chasen) – Buy a Handcrafted Chasen in Switzerland

The hand grasps the handle. The whisk dips in. In quick Z-movements, something no spoon, no shaker, and no blender can replace is created: a fine, even layer of foam from matcha powder and water. The chasen is the oldest and still the best tool for this – and this one is made of natural bamboo, handcrafted, each piece unique.

Why the Chasen is Irreplaceable

Matcha doesn't just dissolve – it wants to be moved. The fine bamboo prongs of the chasen create a shearing motion that distributes the powder evenly and simultaneously incorporates air. The result is a creamy foam layer that is neither too dense nor too fleeting. Plastic whisks or milk frothers create a different texture – the bamboo chasen has been the standard for centuries because it works.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a bamboo chasen last?

With proper care, several months to over a year. The prongs bend with regular use over time – if the foam becomes uneven, it's time for a new one. A chasen stand extends its lifespan by keeping the prongs in their original shape.

How do I clean the chasen correctly?

Rinse under lukewarm running water after each use – without detergent, never in the dishwasher. Let the chasen dry on a stand or lying down so that the fine prongs retain their shape.

What is the difference between Usucha and Koicha?

Usucha is thinner matcha – more water, lighter foam, everyday preparation. Koicha is thicker matcha – less water, more intense, traditionally for the tea ceremony. This chasen is suitable for both.

Can I see the chasen before buying?

In our showrooms in Zurich and Bern – experience it live.
