Mazzer Philos Cup Lid – magnetic lid for canister and dosing cup
The grinder falls silent, and the freshly ground coffee lies in the cup, dark and fragrant. The lid settles on with a gentle magnetic pull, a quick shake from the wrist, and when you lift it again, the whole aroma rises towards you at once.
The Cup Lid is Mazzer's magnetic lid, made of stainless steel and anodised aluminium. It closes the canister or dosing cup so you can mix the grounds before dosing, and according to Mazzer it reduces electrostatic build-up in the ground coffee. You can buy it online from us anywhere in Switzerland, or see it live in Bern and Zurich.
What happens inside the closed cup
During grinding, coffee particles rub against each other and against the burrs. This charges them electrostatically, a perfectly normal physical effect that makes fine powder cling to walls and edges. Mazzer designed the Philos to keep this charge low during grinding and recommends collecting the grounds in the supplied canister. The Cup Lid takes this idea one step further.
With the lid on, you can shake the grounds without spilling anything. Fine and coarser particles mix, small clumps break up, and the coffee falls into the basket as a loose layer. The more even the bed in the portafilter, the more evenly the water finds its way, a lovely foundation for a round, sweet and full-bodied shot. Bean, recipe and your own feel do the rest: every shot is unique, because the bean, the humidity and you yourself change from day to day. That is exactly what makes it beautiful.
And then there is the moment you lift the lid. Our brain releases dopamine in anticipation, not only with the first sip. Because smell and taste are so closely linked, the aroma really begins right here, with the fragrance rising from the cup.
One lid for three Mazzer containers
Mazzer developed the Cup Lid for the Flanged Cup, the Dosing Cup and the Canister.
On the Philos Flanged Cup
The stainless steel Flanged Cup attaches magnetically to the Philos fork, holds up to 50 grams according to Mazzer and fits 58 mm portafilters. With the Cup Lid it becomes a closed dosing cup.
On the magnetic Dosing Cup
Mazzer's magnetic Dosing Cup for 58 mm portafilters comes as standard with the Mazzer Mini G. There, too, the Cup Lid closes the cup so you can shake the grounds after grinding in the same way.
On the Philos Canister
The stainless steel canister comes with every Philos and aligns magnetically under the spout. With the Cup Lid on top, the grounds stay together until they land in the portafilter.
Why a lid brings joy
Nobody needs a lid for their dosing cup. It works without one, and many people pull wonderful espresso from an open cup. The Cup Lid is for everyone who likes their ritual to feel complete: the cool metal in your hand, the snug fit, the quick shake before the coffee falls into the basket. Those who want it know why. That is our opinion, one of many.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Cup Lid fit the canister that comes with the Philos?
Yes. Mazzer lists the canister as a compatible container, along with the Flanged Cup and the magnetic Dosing Cup. Mazzer gives no separate information for the optional 53 mm canister. For that, please ask us briefly before buying at [email protected].
Does the lid also fit the Mazzer Mini G?
Yes. It fits the magnetic Mazzer Dosing Cup, which according to Mazzer comes as standard with the Mini G.
Why should I shake the grounds in the cup?
Shaking mixes fine and coarser particles, breaks up small clumps and lets the coffee fall loosely into the basket. According to Mazzer, the lid also reduces electrostatic build-up. It is an option, not a must.
What is the Cup Lid made of?
Stainless steel and anodised aluminium. It holds magnetically on the cup.
Can I see the product before buying?
Yes. In our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) we are happy to show you our accessories, and in Zurich Mazzer is part of our larger grinder selection. With Click & Collect you can pick up your order at either showroom.
Tip from the roastery: When you lift the lid and the aroma rises, you notice how much is already in the grounds. For dense, round espressos with chocolate and nut, we roast Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight in our coffee roastery in Zurich, with 100% green electricity. If you are looking for maximum body without acidity, you will find it in Very Nutty, and for the curious, Wild Peach is a fruity discovery. Any good bean works, even from the supermarket. This is our recommendation, one of many.
