Latte Art
If you can pour, you can pour latte art with almost any pitcher. The shape of the spout shifts the possibilities in the details: a narrow, pointed spout allows finer lines, such as multi-tier tulips, sharp rosetta leaves, etching-style outlines or swans. The pitchers from Normcore and Dario Pieber are known for this. A wider spout gives a calmer milk stream.
The Europa is one of the jugs with a narrow, pointed spout. It focuses the milk stream and lends itself to fine lines. What matters remains the pouring technique, not the jug.
Care
The polished chrome version is uncoated stainless steel and dishwasher safe.
Wash the coloured versions by hand only; they are not dishwasher safe. Use a soft sponge or microfibre cloth with mild washing-up liquid and dry the jug well afterwards. No harsh cleaning agents, no scouring pads or pot scrubbers: otherwise the coating can become dull, peel or scratch.
Who it's made for
For anyone looking for a jug with a narrow spout, in the size that matches their milk needs per round. For a personal recommendation, the advice tool narrows down the selection; you can find the machines themselves under espresso machines. Pitchers from other brands, in other sizes and spout shapes, are in the Barista Milk Pitchers collection.
Frequently asked questions
Can the Motta Europa go in the dishwasher?
The polished chrome version, yes. The coloured versions, no: hand wash only with a soft sponge or microfibre cloth and mild washing-up liquid, then dry well. Dishwashers, harsh cleaning agents and scouring pads can make the coating dull, cause it to peel or scratch it.
Which size is right for me?
350 ml (11.8 oz) for one milk drink per round, 500 ml (17 oz) for one to two, 750 ml (25.4 oz) for two to three. What counts is the amount of milk you froth per round.
Do I need the pointed spout for latte art?
No. Latte art works with almost any pitcher. A pointed spout like the Europa's allows finer lines; a wider spout gives a calmer milk stream.
Tip from the roastery: In milk drinks, full-bodied espressos with chocolate and nut notes come through most clearly. For this, we roast Cozy Chocolate, Nutty Delight and Very Nutty in Zürich. That is our recommendation, one of many.
