MOTTA spare parts kit for the round knock box – two parts, and the box is as good as new
A round stainless steel knock box lasts practically forever. What does not last forever are the two parts that work every day: the bar you knock the portafilter against, and the edge protector that shields the rim from exactly that impact. At some point the bar sits loose, the rubber is torn – and the stainless steel body around it is still perfect.
This kit replaces both at once. Two quick movements, and the box feels like it did on day one.

Tip from our café
In our experience behind the bar in Bern it pays to swap the edge protector at the same time, even when only the bar is worn – a porous rubber rim is the most common place for coffee oils to settle and make the box smell stale. That is our observation from daily service, not a lab figure. To dial things back in afterwards we use Nutty Delight as a reference, Cozy Chocolate for chocolate notes and Very Nutty for maximum body. All roasts under coffee beans.

Is the knock box included?
No. The kit contains the bar and the edge protector only. We sell the box separately.
Can I replace just the bar?
Yes. Both parts fit independently – you do not have to change the edge protector if it is still good. It then sits ready as a spare.
Does the kit fit a square knock drawer?
No, it is matched to the round MOTTA box. On drawers the length and the mounting of the bar are different.
Do I need tools to fit it?
Usually not. The bar is pushed into place and the edge protector is pulled on; a little pressure with the palm of your hand is enough.
Can I see the part in the showroom?
Yes, in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) you can see it in person.
