One portafilter, three ways to use it
The bottomless Profitec portafilter shows you the extraction from below. That's lovely when you want to watch, and impractical when two people want their espresso at the same time. That's exactly what these two attachments are for: one splits the shot between two cups, the other guides it into one.
Both fit onto the same portafilter, item number AC500049-01, and neither needs any tools. With the double basket that comes with Profitec machines and the two-spout attachment, you have a classic double spout in seconds. With the single basket and the one-spout attachment, accordingly, one cup.
Silicone also has less mass than metal. Less mass means less material drawing heat from the water on the last centimetre, and temperature helps decide which compounds are released: a higher temperature brings more body, a lower one more complexity and aroma. Then there's the simple advantage that silicone can be taken off and cleaned quickly. Whether that matters to you or not is your call. Our opinion is one of many, and there's no espresso police.

What's the difference between the single and double spout?
The one-spout attachment guides the entire shot into one cup and goes with the single basket. The two-spout attachment splits the shot between two cups and goes with the double basket that comes with Profitec machines. Both fit onto the same bottomless portafilter.

Why silicone and not metal?
Silicone has less mass. Less mass means less material absorbing heat as it warms up, and that keeps the temperature at the spout more stable. Then there's the practical side: silicone is easy to take off and clean.
Can I switch between the two attachments?
Yes, that's the idea behind it. Take it off, put on the other attachment, insert the matching basket. If you have both at home, you decide shot by shot whether you want one or two cups, or whether you'd like to see the open bottom.
