WPM ZP-1 Domus – 64mm Single-Dose Flat-Burr Grinder
One button, one shot, one dose. The morning begins with the same ritual: pour in beans, put on the bellow, the grinding chamber opens, the brushless motor starts, the ground coffee falls into the magnetically aligned dosing cup. No menu navigation, no RPM questions, no overthinking. The Domus is the single-dose grinder that gets out of the way – so that espresso remains what it is: a simple ritual at the start of the day.
The WPM ZP-1 Domus is the slimmer sister of the ZP-1. Same platform, same Italian 64mm flat burrs, same workflow – but with a focused motor without speed control and a reduced design. WPM describes it as a more accessible variant of the ZP-1 series. For everyday use in homes and small cafés, this is often sufficient.
What distinguishes the Domus
The heart of the grinder is its Italian-made 64mm flat burrs. Flat burrs tend to produce a sharp flavor profile – individual notes stand out more clearly from each other. In espresso, this often means clarity; in filter coffee, definition. With dense chocolate and nut profiles, it creates rich, round cups. Our opinion is one of many – conical burr grinders like the KONOS render flavors differently, neither better nor worse, just with a different character.
The speed is fixed at 1300 RPM. Those who don't want to bother with RPM tuning or appreciate consistent conditions benefit precisely from this: fewer variables, more repeatability. The stepless grind adjustment covers the full spectrum, from fine espresso to coarse French press. Antistatic properties and low retention allow for bean changes without purging, and the chute knocker pushes through the last remnants.
The design is geared towards tool-free maintenance. The upper grinding chamber can be opened with a single hand – no screwdriver required. The matte black aluminum housing, with a depth of 277 mm and a width of 138 mm, is compact enough for any kitchen. The magnetically aligned dosing cup sits precisely under the spout and keeps the ground coffee clean.

Who the Domus is made for
The Domus is for anyone who wants single-dose grinding in everyday life without needing RPM tuning or a display. If you have one type of bean and want to grind it consistently well, this is the fastest way. If you switch beans, you benefit from low retention and can change without purging. If you value a compact, quiet grinder made of aluminum, this is the right choice for you.
Nobody needs the Domus – but those who want it appreciate the clarity of its concept. Fewer variables, more ritual. If you want maximum control over RPMs, look at the KONOS or the ZP-1 with adjustable RPM. If you're looking for an electric single-dose grinder in a different price range, you'll find it in our Coffee Grinder Collection.
What else you need
The Domus pairs well with machines using a 58mm portafilter – the selection ranges from single boilers to dual boilers in our Coffee Machine Collection. If you want to systematically compare machines, use our Consultation Tool – with filters for heating system, brew group, and workflow.
A scale is essential. Affordable and precise: the scales from the Normcore Collection with a clear display and fast response. With app, flow rate display, and Bluetooth: the Acaia Collection. Both work – the difference lies in the workflow, not in the grinding itself.
For espresso preparation, a tamper, WDT tool, and puck screen are worthwhile. Affordable: Normcore Spring-Loaded Tamper, Normcore WDT Tool, and Normcore Puck Screen. For higher material demands: the Weber Workshops Collection with tamper and Moonraker WDT Tool. All available in Barista Equipment.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Domus and ZP-1?
The Domus shares the platform with the ZP-1: 64mm Italian flat burrs, same design, tool-free cleaning, low retention. It foregoes the ZP-1's adjustable speed (600–1300 RPM) and uses a simpler motor with a fixed speed of 1300 RPM. The ZP-1 is therefore heavier (8.5 kg vs. 6.1 kg) and somewhat more powerful – the Domus is more compact, quieter in concept, and designed for focused daily use.
Can I use the Domus for filter coffee and espresso?
Yes. The stepless grind adjustment covers espresso to French press. With the fixed speed, the profile remains consistent between grind settings, which facilitates repeatability. Those who want to actively experiment with RPM should look at grinders with speed control.
Can I see the Domus before buying?
Yes, in our showrooms in Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) and Bern (Gerberngasse 44) you can see the Domus live and experience it in action. Click & Collect available at both locations. For questions in advance, you can reach us by email at office@coffeecoachingclub.ch.
How loud is the Domus?
Brushless DC motors typically run quieter and have higher torque than brushed motors. Compared to classic grinders with AC motors, the Domus is perceived as noticeably quieter. If you want to know exactly – listen to it in the showroom.
How do I clean the Domus?
The upper grinding chamber opens tool-free with a single hand. The flat burrs become visible and can be brushed out with a brush. For changing beans, a few pumps of the bellow and a tap on the knocker are usually enough to keep retention to a minimum.
Delivery and pickup?
Throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein in 2–4 business days. Click & Collect in Zurich and Bern. Financing available.
Roastery Tip
With 64mm flat burrs, the Domus particularly shines with profiles featuring clear chocolate and nut sweetness. Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight are our top recommendations – dense, round cups that make the clean grinding result immediately noticeable. For maximum body without acidity, go for Very Nutty. For a fruity profile as a discovery: Wild Peach. These are our recommendations – one of many. You know best what's on your counter.
