Bezzera DUO Top DE 3 PID – Dual Boiler with Touch Display
In the morning, it's already up to temperature because you've programmed it for the weekday. One press, the espresso flows – and while it pours into the cup, the milk is already steaming in parallel. Two separate boilers, no waiting in between.
The Bezzera DUO Top DE 3 PID is a compact dual boiler espresso machine with three PID thermostats, volumetric dosing, and a 3.5-inch touch display. Bezzera manufactures it in Italy, with a sleek stainless steel casing, rosewood handles, and an illuminated back.
Dual Boiler with Three PIDs
Two separate copper boilers share the work: a 0.45-liter coffee boiler for extraction and a steam and water boiler holding approximately 1 liter. Because both are independent, you can brew espresso and froth milk simultaneously and as often as you like, without any drop in pressure or temperature. Three PID thermostats maintain stable values: one for the brew group, one for the coffee boiler, and one for the steam boiler. You can set the brewing temperature in a range of approximately 88 to 96 °C.
We extract by weight ratio – 1:2 as a starting point, so about 18 g of coffee to 36 g of espresso – and adjust grind size, amount, and temperature until it tastes right to us. There's no right or wrong.
The Electrically Heated BZ Brew Group
Unlike the E61 variant (which is called Bezzera DUO MN), the DE uses Bezzera's own electrically heated BZ brew group. This significantly shortens the heat-up time: It's ready from cold in about ten minutes. The 58mm portafilter is a standard size, so common accessories fit.
Touch Display, Dosing, and Convenience
You control everything via the 3.5-inch touch display: set boiler temperatures, read the digitally displayed gauges for pump and boiler pressure, program pre-infusion, and set on and off times for each weekday. The abbreviation DE stands for volumetric dosing – a microprocessor measures the water flow, you program four shots directly on the keypad, and the fifth button dispenses manually. Additionally, there's an automatic brew group cleaning program and a water filter alarm. The machine is supplied via the removable 4-liter tank or by a fixed water connection; the rotary pump operates quietly and durably.

Who the DUO Top DE is Made For
For anyone who wants to brew and steam simultaneously at home without compromise and appreciates convenience – the weekday timer, automatic dosing, and touch operation take tasks off your hands. Whether it's your first dual boiler machine or you've been in the game for a while: The DUO makes getting started easy and still leaves you room to experiment. No prior knowledge is required.
What Goes With It
Freshly ground coffee makes all the difference. A machine of this caliber deserves a capable grinder from the Coffee Grinders collection – such as the Varia VS6 or the Weber Workshops EG-1; more affordable options include the Varia VS3 or the Comandante as a hand grinder.
For clean tamping and puck prep, check out the Normcore Collection or the Weber Workshops range – everything fits thanks to the 58mm size. To perfect your 1:2 ratio, a scale with an app from the Acaia Collection or a compact one from the Normcore Collection will help.
Our Deep Dive into Heating Systems explains the difference between single, heat exchanger, and dual boiler machines; the Coffee Machine Comparison helps with selection.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Bezzera DUO Top DE have an E61 brew group?
No. The DE version works with Bezzera's own electrically heated BZ brew group and three PID thermostats. The E61 variant is called DUO MN. The BZ group heats up faster – about ten minutes – and uses a 58mm portafilter.
What do DE and the 3 PIDs stand for?
DE stands for volumetric dosing: You program four shots on the keypad, and the fifth button dispenses manually. The three PID thermostats separately control the brew group, the coffee boiler, and the steam boiler.
Can the DUO brew espresso and froth milk simultaneously?
Yes. As a true dual boiler with two separate copper boilers (coffee boiler 0.45 L, steam boiler approx. 1 L), both run in parallel without any drop in pressure or temperature. You can set the brewing temperature to approximately 88 to 96 °C.
Tank or fixed water – and how do I care for it?
Both: The removable 4-liter tank makes it flexible, or it can be connected to a fixed water supply. An automatic brew group cleaning program is on board; flush daily with the blind filter without cleaning agent and about every 50 shots with cleaning agent. We recommend soft, low-lime water and regular descaling depending on hardness.
Where can I buy the Bezzera DUO Top DE 3 PID?
Online throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein with delivery in 2 to 4 working days, or directly in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b). Financing is available.
From the roastery: The DUO maintains remarkably stable temperatures – which benefits dense, sweet profiles, even with a lot of milk. We recommend Cozy Chocolate, Nutty Delight, and Very Nutty. If you prefer light and fruity, try Wild Peach or Bright Cassis from our Coffee Beans. This is our recommendation, one of many.
