Place it on, turn once, lift off: the mound in the middle sinks, and the grounds lie flat in the basket.
Freshly ground coffee rarely falls evenly. It piles up where the chute points and stays lower at the edge. The Distributor evens out this difference in a single movement – by turning, not by pressing.
A level surface helps the water spread across the whole coffee bed instead of finding a channel. ECM puts it modestly: the Distributor can prevent channeling. That's exactly how we'd put it too – it improves the starting point, it doesn't guarantee anything. No shot is replicable, because the bean, the humidity and the person change every day, and that's precisely what makes espresso interesting.
It's made of aluminium and stainless steel, with a 58 mm diameter and an ergonomic design that needs no effort. Handling is deliberately simple: place, turn, done. Then comes the tamper.
ECM offers both. The Distributor distributes; the Leveler distributes too, and its pressing depth can also be adjusted steplessly. If you always work with the same dose, the Distributor will serve you well; if you switch between doses, you'll appreciate the adjustability. There's no right or wrong here, just two ways to the same goal. Our opinion is one of many.

For everyone with a 58 mm portafilter who wants a calmer, more even prep without adding an extra ritual. One turn is enough.
And for everyone who likes working with tools that feel good in the hand. Design and feel influence enjoyment before the first sip – that's not imagination, it's measurable. Whether that's worth something to you is entirely your call. No budget is just a beginning here.
Before distributing comes breaking up the clumps. Among our WDT tools you'll find both price points: affordable and good, the tool from Normcore; with higher demands on materials and finish, the Moonraker from Weber Workshops.
Then comes the tamping pressure – our tampers range from the Spring-Loaded Tamper from Normcore to the tamper from Weber Workshops. If you want to complete the family, you'll find the matching Leveler among the levelers and distribution tools.
The Distributor spreads the grounds into a level surface with a simple turn. The ECM Leveler does the same, but also has a steplessly adjustable pressing depth that lets you set how far it reaches into your basket. If you always work with the same dose, the Distributor will serve you well.
The two work at different points. The WDT tool breaks up clumps throughout the whole coffee bed; the distributor levels the surface. Many people use both one after the other, some only one – both are legitimate.
It has a 58 mm diameter and is designed for common 58 mm portafilters. Because the inner diameters of filter baskets can vary slightly, send us your machine's item number if you're unsure.
No, it prepares the surface. The tamping pressure comes afterwards from the tamper. That said, there's no right or wrong here: consistent pressure makes your shots more comparable, not automatically better.
Yes. You can see our range in person in Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b. If you order online, delivery takes 2 to 4 working days throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein.
Even preparation pays off most clearly with dense roasts. Cozy Chocolate with chocolate and caramel and Nutty Delight with nut and a long finish are our main recommendation for full-bodied, round cups. If you're after maximum body without any acidity, go for Very Nutty; for a fruity, lively experience there's Wild Peach. One recommendation of many – it works very well with other beans too.
