MHW-3BOMBER Armor Tamper 58.35 mm – self-leveling with adjustable depth
Set the depth once to match your dose, place the heavy tamper down, and it presses straight down until it stops – always at the same level. The puck sits flat, the pressure stays constant, and there's no more guessing when enough is enough.
A solid, self-leveling tamper whose tamping depth you match to your shot.
What makes the Armor special
Its appeal lies in the adjustable depth: you can adjust the tamping depth by up to 13 millimeters and adapt to different amounts of grounds – more coffee, a different setting, the same level result. A triple spring keeps the pressure constant at around 30 lbs and resets itself automatically after every tamp.
The result is an evenly compacted puck, through which the water moves calmly and evenly during the shot – the foundation for a well-rounded shot. Made from stainless steel and aluminum, the Armor brings a substantial weight of around 540 grams to the hand. Tamping remains a craft, not a set of rules – the Armor just takes the guesswork out of it. Our opinion is one of many.

Who it's for
For anyone with a 58 mm machine who likes to match their tamping depth to the dose and prefers a heavy, self-leveling tool. Anyone working with different amounts of grounds benefits especially from the adjustable depth.
What you pair it with
An even tamp works together with the rest of your setup. Affordable tamping stations, puck screens and WDT tools are in the Normcore Collection and especially finely crafted ones in the Weber Workshops Collection.
More tampers to compare are in our Tamper Collection. And because the best tamp only really pays off with the right machine, it's worth taking a look at our espresso machines – supported by our advisory tool.
Frequently asked questions
What does adjustable tamping depth mean?
The depth the tamper dips into the basket can be adjusted – up to 13 mm. That way it adapts to different amounts of grounds, while every tamp still stays flat and at the same level.
What's the difference between the Armor and the Flash?
The Armor is heavier and offers adjustable tamping depth; the Flash is calibrated and gives an audible click at around 30 lbs. Both work with a spring system for constant pressure – which one suits you is a matter of taste.
Does the Armor fit my basket?
At 58.35 mm, it's made for common 58 mm portafilters, such as those from La Marzocco, Gaggia or Ascaso.
Can I see the tamper in person before buying?
Very happily — you can experience it live in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zürich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b). Online, we deliver in 2–4 business days, throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein.
Tip from our coffee roastery
A flat, consistent tamp really shows in full-bodied, sweet roasts. Our Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight taste round and dense. For maximum body without acidity, the Very Nutty, for a fruity experience, the Wild Peach. That's our recommendation – one of many.
