The portafilter is the tool that holds the entire shot in your hand. It presses the coffee against the shower screen, holds the pressure and releases the espresso. On an R8 or R9 in daily service, it goes in and out of the group hundreds of times, gets twisted, knocked out and locked back in – and at some point you notice it in the cup.
This version has one spout and comes with the matching basket for 7 grams. It carries the part number M699905526 and therefore belongs to the portafilter system of the R8 and R9, not to the home machines with an E61 group.
Before you replace a basket, it's worth taking a look at the limescale. A basket with clogged holes behaves like a defective part: the shot runs unevenly, it sprays in one spot and barely drips in another. A backflush with cleaning powder and a descale often achieve more than a new part. You'll find our range for this under Machine and grinder cleaning.
Only if the basket still runs unevenly after cleaning, or the holes are visibly widened, is it time for a replacement.
The portafilter sits loosely in the group or can only be turned into the lock with noticeable force. Both point to a worn seat.
It leaks around the edge even though the group gasket is new. In that case, it's usually not the gasket's fault but the portafilter itself.
The handle has play, the spout is bent, or the basket no longer sits securely in the portafilter. And even without a defect: an extra portafilter in rotation keeps operations moving while one is being cleaned.

We carry eight portafilters in the Rocket catalogue, in three groups. They look similar, but belong to different model series and are not interchangeable – what matters is the machine, not the shape of the handle:
For the professional machines R8, R9 and R9 ONE (four items):
R8 and R9, one spout, with 7 g basket – part number M699905526 – i.e. this product
R8 and R9, two spouts, with 14 g basket – part number M699905527
R9 ONE, one spout, with basket – part number R699906521
R9 ONE, two spouts, with basket – part number R699906520
For the Appartamento TCA (two items):
Appartamento TCA, one spout, with basket and spring
Appartamento TCA, two spouts, with basket and spring
For the other home machines (two items):
One spout, with basket
Two spouts, with basket
On top of that there's the bottomless portafilter with double basket, which we carry as a barista accessory rather than as an original spare part. Individual baskets are available as a 7 g basket and as a 14 g basket.
For the four portafilters of the Appartamento TCA and the other home machines, our documentation lists no part number, and for none of the eight does it give the basket diameter. If you're not sure which model series you have in front of you: send us the serial number and we'll identify it.
For cafés and roasteries with an R8 or R9 that need an extra portafilter in rotation, and for anyone whose portafilter has developed play after years of continuous use.
If you have a Rocket for home use – Appartamento, Giotto, Mozzafiato, R58 or R Cinquantotto – this is not your part. We carry separate portafilters for these machines.
For the home machines we carry separate portafilters: the single-spout portafilter, the double-spout portafilter, the bottomless portafilter as well as the two portafilters for the Appartamento TCA single spout and Appartamento TCA double spout. Individual baskets are available as a 7 g basket and 14 g basket. All Rocket items are listed under Rocket accessories and spare parts, the entire service range under Original spare parts.
From our workshop
In Bern and Zürich, we keep one more portafilter per machine on hand than the machine has groups. The spare portafilter spends the night in the cleaning bath while the other stays in use. That way, there's never a freshly rinsed, cold portafilter in the group in the morning that throws off the first two shots. This is our routine, not a manufacturer requirement.
To break in a new portafilter, we like to use something forgiving: Nutty Delight forgives the first uneven shots, whereas Cozy Chocolate clearly shows whether the extraction is on point. The whole range is listed under Coffee beans.
No returns
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are procured specifically for each order and cannot be resold after installation or test fitting on the machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a quick message and we'll clarify the fit together. Your rights in the event of defective goods remain unaffected.
No. This version belongs to the portafilter system of the R8 and R9. We carry separate portafilters for the home machines. Send us the serial number and we'll check the fit.
Yes, the basket for 7 grams is included in the scope of delivery.
The single has one spout and the single basket, the double has two spouts and the larger basket. Each has its own part number, M699905526 and M699905527.
That really is the case and not a mistake on our part. The manufacturer prices the two versions differently; the documentation gives no reason for this. We pass on the price as it appears in the list.
Yes. We're in Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and in Zürich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b. Bring the serial number of your machine and we'll check the fit together at the counter.
